Windlesham School
Newsletter
Issue 146
October 2014
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the first newsletter of our new academic year. It has been a real
pleasure welcoming everyone back to School and we would like to extend a
special warm welcome to our new families. We hope you will all enjoy the
Autumn term.
Staff News: This term, we have welcomed our
new staff who have joined us in the Upper
School. Miss Baig (English Co-ordinator) and
Mrs Carvey (Humanities Teacher) are both
settling into Windlesham very quickly.
We wish them a very happy and successful
time with us. We were delighted to welcome
Miss Grayling back into Windlesham recently.
She shared some exciting news with us and
that is that she is expecting a baby. We all
wish her well at this time. We are very grateful to Ms Christofis who is kindly covering the
role of School Secretary at the moment.
School Calendar and the Deputy
Headteacher’s Bulletin:
There are many important dates
issued in the School Calendar so
please note these in your diary.
We have a busy and exciting
Autumn term with trips and visits
already underway. Please note:
The Deputy Headteacher’s Bulletin will show the latest updates on
a weekly basis. It is also published
on the School Website: http://
www.windleshamschool.co.uk/news-
Parking: Please continue to help park
responsibly along Dyke Road, Port Hall
Road and our surrounding areas when
you pick-up and drop-off children. This
is much appreciated by the School and
neighbouring areas too.
Inconsiderate and Dangerous Parking in
the local vicinity of Windlesham School:
We have received notice from Sussex Police
that they will be increasing patrols in the
area during peak hours and issuing words of
advice in the first instance, followed up with
penalty notices for repeat offenders.
AUTUMN TERM SCHOOL TRIPS
Children from Year 2 to Year 6 have
recently enjoyed learning about different aspects of their curriculum
outside the classroom. The children
in the Upper School described each
trip in great detail during a recent
assembly. We shall look forward to
reading their accounts of their recent experiences in our next issue.
Year 2 photographs of the Royal
Pavilion trip can be seen in the
Lower School Noticeboard.

a trace of

WINDLESHAM SPORTS NEWS
FOOTBALL: The U11/10 school team had a brilliant afternoon at Lancing Prep
School . The results were very good with 2 wins for Windlesham (5-0 B team and 20 A team). The most pleasing aspect of the match was the quality of our ball skills,
especially our passing together with our general team work. The U9 team lost their
first game of the season but performed extremely well. They were narrowly
beaten in a very exciting match. The determined attitude displayed by the whole
team indicates that this team will have success soon. A special mention must go
to Maria who was the only girl playing in either of the teams on this occasion. The
U11 & U10 football teams travelled to play at St. Christopher's this week. The U11
team (which included two U10 players) played in a very competitive match and
eventually came through to win 5-0. The U10 team, which included several boys
making their debuts, played in an exciting match with our goalkeeper, Jai, making some outstanding saves. However, the opposition proved to be too strong
and Windlesham was eventually beaten 5-1.Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for all the players and their parents along with Mrs Bennett-Odlum
who came to support the teams.
SWIMMING: The swimming team had an outstanding victory over a very strong
Shoreham College team last week. Shoreham
pupils swam extremely well in their open air pool
but Windlesham proved to be too strong winning the gala comfortably. Congratulations to
all the swimmers but a special well done to
the children who
represented Windlesham for the
first time.
NETBALL: The U11 Netball Team played against Brighton College on Wednesday,
1st October. The girls played extremely well showing improved skills and working
well as a team. After playing for 40 minutes, Windlesham School came away with
a win of 16 to 2. Well done to the U11 team.

Friends of Windlesham News:
The Friends of Windlesham held their AGM on Tuesday, 30th September.
We said some goodbyes to committee members and voted in a new
committee. If you would like to join FOW then do email
chair@friendsofwindlesham.co.uk. Thank you also to all those parents
who helped at our extremely busy Nearly New Uniform Sale recently. We
think it was our busiest sale ever! The Friends of Windlesham are delighted to have been able to organise a great event on Tuesday, 7th
October when we welcomed the Science Wizards to Windlesham
School for a fun day of demonstrations and workshops learning all about
science. All the children were able to take part in this during the school
day. Walk to School Week takes place in the week starting 13th October…look out for Piers the Meerkat who will hopefully be making a guest
appearance again that week! The walk starts every morning at Hove
Park and all children, parents and carers are welcome to join us. Details
of the walk to school week will be available soon. The Friends of Windlesham have once again organised the fundraiser Christmas Cards
and Mugs which are individually designed by the children. All children in
