Fears of a global economic slowdown are causing havoc in stock markets. In the U.S., stocks succumbed to more downward pressure on
Columbus Day. Funds shifting out of equities are being parked in the safe haven of bonds, helping bond and mortgage yields to plumb
lower levels. No relevant reports were released this morning, but tomorrow will be a particularly busy day for economic reports, including
updates on retail sales, inflation, and the Fed's Beige Book. October is solidifying its reputation as a spooky month for stock investors. It
will be interesting to see market reaction to some substantive reports tomorrow, since there has been considerable movement the past
week or so based on relatively sparse U.S. economic data.
