 Juniors and Seniors: A representative from Missouri State University, from
Springfield, will be here on Tuesday, November 18th during advisory in the library
 Juniors: The ASVAB, Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, will be given to
all juniors on Wednesday, November 19th in the library from 8:15 to 11:15.
 Sophomores: If you are planning to attend BTEC next year for automotive technology,
you need to take the ASVAB this year. The ASVAB will be used to determine who does
and does not get in based on your test scores, if the class fills up.
 Juniors and Seniors: If you receive a free or reduced lunch, see Mrs. Lucas about a
college application fee waiver. Fee waivers are also available for the ACT – two are
allowed during your high school career.
 Parents or other interested Community Members: State Fair Community College is
offering High School Equivalency test preparation. Classes are completely free and $50
vouchers to help pay for the Hi-set exam are available in the guidance office. Classes are
offered in Appleton City, Boonville, Carrollton, Clinton, Lexington, Marshall, Osceola,
Sedalia, Warrensburg, Warsaw, and Windsor. For more information, contact Deb

 College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Massachusetts, is a place that truly stands out
from the crowd. It is a highly selective liberal arts college grounded in the Jesuit
tradition. Students are taught by exceptional faculty, never by teaching assistants. Holy
Cross is devoted exclusively to undergraduate education. It has a 95% retention rate and
a 10:1 student/faculty ratio, and has a Division I sports program. Tuition, room and
board, and fees total $58,042. Holy Cross has a need-blind admissions policy. They
accept qualified students regardless of their ability to pay and meet 100 percent of their
financial need as determined by nationally recognized financial aid criteria. If interested,

 Trulaske Leadership Academy is a day long leadership conference for selected seniors
hosted by University of Missouri’s College of Business Student Council. The day
consists of seeing Mizzou’s business school and then participating in active and engaging
workshops that will enhance leadership skills and prepare students for college. It is not
required to be an upcoming Mizzou student to apply. It will be held Friday, November
14th from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Cornell Hall at University of Missouri – Columbia. The
cost for the event is $20, which includes lunch, all activities, and a t-shirt. Deadline to

 Musical Excellence Scholarship Competition will be held at Aurora University in
Aurora, Illinois on Saturday, February 21st. Application deadline is February 7th. For

Aurora University offers two generous music scholarships to incoming students. Each
scholarship is renewable at the end of the academic year for up to four years. Students
can apply for both, but there are separate applications they need to complete. The total
amount of scholarships cannot surpass $5,000 per year.
 Meet The Geeks is a time to learn what Fontbonne University, St. Louis, has to offer in
Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Biology, Biology for Secondary Education, Cyber
Security, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Mathematics for
Secondary Education, and One Health Certificate. This event will be held on Tuesday,
October 28th from 7 – 9 p.m. For more information, visit www.fontbonne.edu.
FYI: One Health is a new and rapidly growing field combining human medicine,
veterinary medicine and environmental conservation to study the interconnectedness of
the world in which we live. As human and animal populations coexist in closer
environments, the health and well-being of all become intertwined. Diseases like avian
flu and epidemics like colony collapse in bee populations impact both groups. Through
Fontbonne’s new certificate, One Health students will take a close look at the intersection
of disease transmission, climate change, public health, animal health and more as they
explore this increasingly critical field.

 Missouri Valley College is hosting their Open Houses on the following dates: Friday,

 Culver-Stockton College, Canton, MO, is offering a new program called the Advantage
Program. Students will have the opportunity to learn by combining research, theory,
travel and hands-on experiences, tailored to each student’s personal and career goals.
The typical 15-week semester is split into two terms: a 12-week term and a 3-week term.
The 3-week term also students to concentrate entirely on one course. Culver-Stockton
has a 96% placement rate into employment or graduate school and offers a 4-year
graduation guarantee. On average, 98% of students receive financial aid and the average
aid package for incoming freshmen is $24,600. Presidential Preview Days are as
follows: Friday, Dec. 5 and Monday, Feb. 16. Nursing/Athletic Training Day is

 Kettering University, Michigan, offers a nationally ranked STEM education founded on
academically intense programs in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and
business richly integrated with applied professional cooperative and experiential

 State Fair Community College is hosting its Roadrunner Preview Days on November
21, January 23, February 27, March 27, and April 24. RSVP one week prior to each date
at www.sfccmo.edu/visit. Preview Days begin at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m., and includes
lunch. This is for juniors, seniors, and their families. Students will discover the new
navigation advising program, interact with someone from their program of interest, learn
about admissions and financial aid, meet instructors and current students, take a campus
tour and see the residence hall, enjoy free lunch, and be surprised by what SFCC has to
offer.

 SCHOLARSHIPS 2014-2015
 Sussie Scholarship
 Eligibility: High school seniors or current full-time undergrad or grad students. No
application or essay, just contribute knowledge about stuff you already know. Sussie

 Horatio Alger Missouri Scholarship
 Eligibility: Enrolled full time as a high school senior progressing normally toward
graduation in spring/summer 2014, with plans to enter college in the U.S. in the fall.
Must have a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree, critical
financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income), involvement in cocurricular and community service activities, minimum GPA of 2.0 and a U.S. citizen.
Applicant must have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity.
Must submit one support and verification form that has been completed by an adult who
understands your adversity and can describe the unique circumstances in your life.
Family income must be verified by submitting a copy of the first two pages of their
parent/guardian’s federal tax return or 1099 SSA – Social Security form for 2013 or tax
transcript. If parents weren’t required to file, must include statement copies of any

 Coca Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship
 Eligibility: Seniors planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. institution and

 Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship
 Eligibility: Be 13 years of age or older, be currently enrolled or enrolling no later than
fall of 2020 in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Submit an
online short written response (250 words or less) for the question: “Imagine that your
high school/college has been overrun with Zombies. Your math professor, the cafeteria
ladies and even your best friend have all joined the walking dead. Use our brain to flesh
out a plan to avoid the Zombies, including where you would hide and the top 5 things you
would bring with you to stay alive.”

 Coca Cola Scholars Program Scholarship
 Eligibility: Seniors planning to pursue a 4 yr. degree at an accredited college, have a
minimum 3.00 GPA, and children or grandchildren of employees or owners of Coca Cola

 Megan Meier Memorial Scholarship
 Eligibility: Seniors that have made a positive impact in regards to the issues surrounding
bullying and cyberbullying in their own school environment and community. Must
possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50. Obtain a written recommendation from a
member of the faculty or staff at their school. Students may fill out the application at

can print the form from the website and mail. A one to two page essay is required
describing how your accomplishments relate to the mission of the Megan Meier
Foundation, a list of extracurricular acitvities, description of ways you have proactively
helped to lessen all forms of bullying within your school, a list of professional goals after
graduation from college, description of why you feel you are a deserving recipient for
this scholarship, and a list of any special circumstances you would like the Scholarship
Committee to consider when reviewing your application.

 Hagen Scholarship
 Eligibility: Must be a student in the 2015 graduating class and have attended as a junior
and senior an eligible high school with a 3.50 GPA and score 23 or higher on an ACT.
Family's EFC number on their FAFSA must be less than $7500. If awarded scholarship,
student must maintain a 4 year college graduation schedule, maintain a 3.0 GPA each
semester of college, must provide an annual report documenting progress towards those
personal goals submitted to the grant committee, and must attend mandatory workshops
intended to help recipients obtain a practical understanding of important life skills that
may not be taught as a part of the school curriculum. Each applicant must authenticate an
unmet financial need in order to attend college. Scholarship recipients will be selected
based upon character, academic ability, achievement in and out of school, and future
promise. The preferred recipient will be a high achieving student with meaningful work
or volunteer experience who aspires to obtain a college education in order to realize his
or her full potential. Recipients must work a minimum of 240 hours prior to the start of
each academic year of college. This scholarship is renewable up to 7 additional
semesters. In order to receive the scholarship, parents must also pay their FAFSA (free








application for federal student aid) EFC (expected family contribution), if any. Students

Youth Volunteer Scholarship Award
Eligibility: Over the past 2 years, a student must have completed a minimum of 50 hours
of volunteer work. Over the past 2 years, a student must have maintained a GPA of 3.5
or greater. Student must be under age 21 on the day of the deadline. Applications can be

Education Matters Scholarship
Eligibility: 13 years or older and be currently enrolled or plan to enroll no later than fall

 Missouri Youth Pork Ambassador Program
 Eligibility: Be a senior in high school up to a sophomore in college as of January 1st of
the year they will begin the program. Applicant must be involved in the pork industry or
the son/daughter of a parent or guardian involved in the pork industry (owner, operator or
allied industry). Must be a Missouri resident and have own transportation. Must
continue education at a technical school, community college or 4-year university. The
ambassador will be required to attend six events throughout the year and will be asked to
set up a booth promoting pork at the county fair. Candidates making it to round 2 will be
asked to have a personal interview. Visit

 AXA Achievement Scholarship
 Eligibility: Current high school seniors who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited
college. Must demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding
achievement in school, community or work-related activities. Special consideration will
be given to achievements that empower society to mitigate risk through education and/or
action in areas such as financial, environmental, health and/or emergency-preparedness.
 Award: State Level - $10,000 (52), National Level - $25,000 (10) includes state award
 Deadline: December 15th, only the first 10,000 applications will be accepted.
 Burger King Scholars Program
 Eligibility: Recipients are selected based on their gpa, work experience, extracurricular
activities and/or community service. Must have 2.5 cumulative gpa or higher and must
apply online. The first 50,000 applications will be processed. To apply, should use
Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari. Applicants must create an account and can login and

 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award
 Eligibility: Graduating high school seniors who are entering their freshman year at an
accredited two- or four-year university, college, or vocational institute in the fall of 2015.
They must demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and initiative through having established a
business of their own. Scholarships are merit based, not on financial need. To apply and

 Odenza Marketing Group Volunteer Scholarship
 Eligibility: Be between the ages of 16 and 22 on December 30, 2014. Student must also
possess a GPA of 2.5 or higher in his/her last academic year. Student must have
contributed at least 50 hours of volunteer (non-paid) service within his/her community
over the last 12 months.

 The National Wild Turkey Federation's Scholarship
 Eligibility: Seniors who have at least a 3.0 GPA and who support the preservation of the
hunting tradition and actively participate in hunting sports. A copy of current hunting
license is required. Students must hold a current NWTF membership, be involved in
school activities, demonstrate ability as a leader among peers, and demonstrate
community leadership and/or involvement. Students must submit an essay exhibiting
dedication to conservation and three letters of recommendation. For an application,

 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Scholarship
 Eligibility: Open to high school students in grades 9-12. Write an essay (700-1000
words) that demonstrates your understanding of the political courage as described by

 GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program
 Eligibility: Demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the
attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship; demonstrate strong academic
performance (minimum 3.0 GPA; demonstrate financial need; be citizen of U.S.; be high
school senior; and plan to enroll in a full-time course of study toward a bachelor's degree
for the entire 2014-2015 academic year. Apply online at

 I Have A Dream Scholarship

about?” Whether it’s some bizarre dream you had last week or your hopes for the future,

 KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program
 Eligibility: Seniors enrolling in a public or university within their state of residence and
pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Must also have a 2.75 GPA and demonstrate financial

 Award: up to $5000 per year and renewable up to four years

 Sweet and Simple Scholarship:
 Eligibility: 13 years or older and be currently enrolled or plan to enroll no later than fall
of 2021 in a post-secondary institution. Must submit a short written response (250 words
or less) to: “Not every gift has to be expensive or extravagant. In fact, sometimes it‟s the
sweet and simple things that make a real difference in our lives.” Think back and tell us

 National Farmers Union Foundation Hubert K. and JoAnn Seymour Scholarship
 Eligibility: Seniors who are continuing education in 2-yr or 4-yr college for any area of
study. Must be a Farmers Union member. Typed essay on the significance of rural values
in America and on your life is required. Possible phone interviews with finalists.

Superpower Scholarship
Eligibility: 13 years or older and be currently enrolled or plan to enroll no later than fall

or less) to the question: “Which superhero or villain would you want to change places
with for a day and why?” Use your imagination and become the superhero, or perhaps

 National Farmers Union Foundation Stanley Moore Scholarship
 Eligibility: Open to Farmers Union members and their children, h.s. seniors, and college
students or non-traditional students seeking funding to attend 2 yr. or 4 yr. college or
technical school in any area of study. Written essay describing your personal and
professional goals and your involvement with Farmers Union is required. Applications
can be obtained at http://www.nfu.org/education/scholarships. Application and
supporting documents must be mailed and meet the postmark deadline.
 Award: $1000 (several) to be used on tuition and books
 Deadline: April 15, 2015

 The American Legion Scholarships
 Basic criteria for all: Resident of Missouri, under age 21, unmarried, and a descendent of
a veteran with at least ninety days active service in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force,
Marines or Coast Guard, who received an Honorable Discharge for such service. A
photocopy of the veteran’s DD 214, discharge or separation notice must accompany the
scholarship application. Any additional requirements for each scholarship are below.

 All deadlines for American Legion Scholarships: April 20, 2015, except Shane Dean
Voyles – see below for special instructions.

 Lillie Lois Ford Scholarship
 Eligibility: Two awards will be given – one to a boy who has attended a full session of
The American Legion Boys State of Missouri or a full session of the Department’s Cadet
Patrol Academy. The second award is given to a girl who has attended a full session of
The American Legion Auxiliary’s Girls State program or a full session of the
Department’s Cadet Patrol Academy.
 Award: $1000 (one for a boy and one for a girl)

 M.D. “Jack” Murphy Memorial Nurses Training Fund
 Eligibility: One award given to a boy or girl training to be a registered nurse, and may
be used in their freshman or subsequent college years. The student must have graduated
















in the top forty percent of their high school class or have a “C” or equivalent standing
from their last college or university semester.
Award: $750, payable at $375 per semester and may, by application, be extended for
two additional successive semesters.
Joseph J. Frank Scholarship
Eligibility: Five awards given to individuals who are descendants of a veteran.
Applicant must have attended a full session of The American Legion Boys State or The
American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program. Scholarship must be used for full time
attendance.
Award: $500 (5)
Charles L. Bacon Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: Two awards to individuals who are currently members of The American
Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, or the Sons of The American Legion, or a
descendant of a member of any thereof. Recipient must use scholarship as a full time
student.
Award: $500 (2)
Erman W. Taylor Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: Two awards to a student planning on obtaining a degree in education.
Recipient must use award as a full time student, and submit an essay of 500 words or less
on the following subject – In your opinion, what was the most significant world event of
2014/2015?
Award: $500 (2)
Shane Dean Voyles Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: One award given based on financial need, participation in athletics,
participation in school activities/clubs, volunteer work, exceptional leadership qualities,
high moral standards and extreme patriotism. Only one student can be nominated from
our school. If interested in this scholarship, fill out the application and give to counselor.
Award: $500
Deadline to turn application in to guidance office is April 1st. This will allow time to
vote on which student’s application will be submitted
Peter Pasula Study Habits Scholarship
Eligibility: Be attending an accredited post-secondary institution by the fall of 2015.
Student can be enrolled at any level in any program that is two years in length or longer.
Students must answer the essay question on the website online application form.

 AFSA Fire Sprinkler Essay Scholarship
 Eligibility: Open to all high school seniors. Winners not based on financial need.
Applicants will be required to read an essay about automatic fire sprinklers and then take
a 10 question open-book, multiple-choice test. For each question answered correctly,
students will receive one entry into a drawing for the scholarship. Applications will only
be accepted online at www.afsascholarship.org .




Award: 10 ($2000) scholarships

All About Education Scholarship
Eligibility: 13 years or older and be currently enrolled or plan to enroll no later than fall
of 2020 in a post-secondary institution. Must submit a short written response (250 words
or less) to the question: “How will a $3000 scholarship for education make a difference

 Fifth Month Scholarship
 Eligibility: 13 years or older and be currently enrolled or plan to enroll no later than fall

or less) to: May is the fifth month of the year. Write a letter to the number five

 Global Lift Equipment Scholarship
 Eligibility: Be currently attending or planning on attending a post-secondary institution
in Canada or the US in September of 2014 or September of 2015. Candidates will also

 Do-Over Scholarship

 Imagine America Foundation Scholarship
 Eligibility: Senior planning to attend any one of the over 500 participating career
colleges across the country. To see which career colleges participate, see Mrs. Lucas for
a list. To apply visit www.imagine-america.org. Student must have a 2.5 GPA or
greater, financial need, and have demonstrated voluntary community service during their
senior year. This year’s seniors can begin applying January 1, 2015.
 Award: $1000 scholarships
 Deadline: December 31, 2015 for this year’s seniors. December 31, 2014 for 2014
graduates.
