EXPRESSION OF INTEREST:
REVIEWERS
The purpose of the calls is to request expressions of interest from persons with expertise within various fields to serve as
peer reviewers for NCRST’s research proposals by providing analysis and rating on the quality of submitted proposals.
The evaluations serve as feedback to applicants on how they can improve their proposals through the addition of
dimensions that add social and economic value (amongst others). The evaluation process also provides opportunities for
researchers to conduct research and development related to Research Technology & Innovation, particularly aligned to the
thematic priority areas outlined in the NCRST’s National Programme on Research, Science, Technology and Innovation
(NPRSTI) as listed below.
The priority areas to be considered are as follows:
Reviewers with expertise and experience in one or more of the following 15 thematic priority areas are required:
Category A: Health; Agriculture; Fisheries; Water; Energy; Geosciences; Mining; Indigenous Knowledge Systems;
Logistics; Environment & Tourism
Category B: Manufacturing Technologies; Information Communication Technology; Biotechnology and Space Sciences
Eligibility Criteria
The reviewer is expected to have in depth knowledge as well as a proven track record within the specified field of
expertise. The reviewer will have the ultimate responsibility of preserving the integrity of the review (by omitting or
reporting possible bias and conflict of interest).

Reviewers must be affiliated to institutions of higher learning as well as public and private research institutions.

Reviewers must be in possession of at least a Masters, PhD or a Post-Doctoral Degree. . Exceptions can be made for
reviewers who hold numerous years of experience as well as a proven track record in the particular research field.

Must have a minimum of 5 years work experience.

Reviewers should be comfortable reading a large volume of material within a defined period of time and must be
capable of in- depth analysis of proposals.
