2014 RESULTS
MANDURAH City Football Club is
delighted to announce the
appointment Premier League soccer
coach Doug Hesketh to lead its 2015
push for National Premier League
status.
ALL FLAGS DIVISION ONE
Hesketh, transformed former club
Stirling over a seven-year period,
culminating in several under-18
championships and a senior minor
premiership in 2013, before taking a
break from the game last season.
And joining him in the club’s stepfor the NPL status next season will be
former Armadale and Rockingham
coach Steve Robinson, who has
played professional football in
England for Preston North End.
The pair replace coaches Billy
Russell and Tom Kilkelly, who have
been at the helm at Hyundai Stadium
for the past three seasons.
“It is essential Mandurah and the
Peel region has an NPL set-up so our
youngsters have the right pathways
to achieve their goals,” club president
Pete Rowe said.
“Doug had been assisting us with a
complete restructure of junior
football set-up and we realised there
had to be a total overhaul of all our
football operations.
“Doug has been there and done
just that with Stirling — with excellent
results – so when we started to look
for a Head of Football that met all the
coaching criteria – qualifications and
a junior and senior understanding of
the game - he was the perfect fit.
“Out of respect to our coaches this
season, we had to wait until the
season was over and Doug wanted a
year out for personal reasons, so
we’ve had to wait to get our man.
“Steve is another highly qualified
coach (Uefa B licence) and will bring
tremendous experience to our
coaching ranks — and both easily
meet the minimum criteria set down
by Football West.”
Also joining the club’s coaching
ranks is player Simon Bell, a local
teacher and another Football
Association accredited coach. Simon
will act as junior football coaching
manager — and will work closely with
Doug and Steve to ensure the club
can offer qualified coaching to allow
local Mandurah players to easily
progress to senior football.
“I was very impressed with what
Mandurah had to say and their plans
for a strong junior program will
benefit football in the region,”
Hesketh said. “The junior program
has been fully endorsed by FFA — so
we know we are on the right track.”
