OCTOBER 19, 2014 HOLY FAMILY RETREAT LEAGUE MERIDEN CHAPTER Fall Ziti Supper Saturday, October 18, 2014 – 6:30 p.m. Saint Joseph Church – Rosary Hall DAYS OF PRAYER FOR THE BEREAVED Your Sorrow Will be Turned to Joy Autumn is a time when although nature presents a beautiful picture with its trees in various bright colors, we are reminded that soon those very trees will shed their leaves and appear as if they have no life. That is what we see; yet we know that when Spring comes, once again those trees will blossom and present new life and great joy to all who behold them. So, too, we have lost a loved one in death, we wonder if there is any hope for our sorrow ever turning to joy. Tuesday, October 21st, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Fee: $20. Two little boys, Tom and Danny, are excessively mischievous. They are always getting into trouble and their Mom knows if any mischief occurs in their town, the two boys are probably involved. The boys' mother heard that a preacher in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The preacher agreed, but he asked to see them individually. The mother sent the Danny in the morning, with the older boy to see the preacher in the afternoon. The preacher, a huge man with a deep booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly, "Do you know where God is, son?" The boy's mouth dropped open, but he made no response, sitting there wide-eyed with his mouth hanging open. So the preacher repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God?!' Again, the boy made no attempt to answer. The preacher raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face and bellowed, "WHERE IS GOD?!" The boy screamed & bolted from the room, ran directly home & dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him. When his older brother found him in the closet, he asked, "What happened?" The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied, "We are in BIG trouble this time!" "GOD is missing, and they think WE did it!" PRAYER BEFORE AN ELECTION Lord God, as the election approaches, we seek to better understand the issues and concerns that confront our city/state/country, and how the Gospel compels us to respond as faithful citizens in our community. We ask for eyes that are free from blindness so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters, one and equal in dignity, especially those who are victims of abuse and violence, deceit and poverty. We ask for ears that will hear the cries of children unborn and those abandoned, men and women oppressed because of race or creed, religion or gender. We ask for minds and hearts that are open to hearing the voice of leaders who will bring us closer to your Kingdom. We pray for discernment so that we may choose leaders who hear your Word, live your love, and keep in the ways of your truth as they follow in the steps of Jesus and his Apostles and guide us to your Kingdom of justice and peace. We ask this in the name of your Son Jesus Christ and through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
