inductees into the new
The Prince Albert Arts Board
announced the five new inductees into the Prince Albert Hall of Fame on Friday, September 26th at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre.
The evening Gala launched the website that will serve as the home of the Virtual Hall of Fame providing information on its first
five inductees. The 2014 inductees have made a significant impact on the Arts in Prince Albert, and have left us the legacy on
which to build. The public can explore and read about the five inaugural inductees on the Prince Albert Arts Hall of Fame website.
John Victor Hicks -- A poet
since the 1930s, Hicks
published his first volume of
poetry in 1978, quickly gaining
distinction in Canadian literary
circles. He became a regular
fixture at the Prince Albert
Arts Centre, where he served
as a mentor for aspiring
artists. Hicks was rewarded
an honorary doctorate in
literature from the University
of Saskatchewan and the
Saskatchewan Order of Merit.
Bernice Sayese -- The 2002
Prince Albert Citizen of the
Year, Sayese was recognized
for her contributions to society. She devoted her life to
countless community organizations that served the Prince
Albert community; including
a central role in helping the
city’s less fortunate. Sayese
was inducted into the Council
of Women Hall of Fame and
the West Flat Community
Centre was re-named the
Bernice Sayese Centre in her
honour.
Margo Fournier -- A legendary figure
in Prince Albert immortalized by
the naming of her namesake multipurpose recreation centre. Margo
Fournier is well known for her life
work of fostering musical and athletic
talents in many generations of Prince
Albertyouth. She was named 1964’s
Prince Albert Citizen of the Year, and
in 1983 was made a Member of the
Order of Canada.
Ed Rawlinson – Founder of Rawlco
Radio – Rawlinson served in various
organizations in Prince Albert. The
estate of Ed Rawlinson has donated
more than $1 million dollars toward
helping the community build the
E. A. Rawlinson Centre, which opened
10 years ago and bears his name.
Annabel Taylor - From 1987
to 1998, Taylor worked in the
arts department at the SIAST
Woodland Campus. Taylor also
volunteered in various capacities
related to the Prince Albert arts
community – in 1990 awarded
the prestigious Saskatchewan
Volunteer Recognition Award for
Culture.
The Prince Albert Arts Hall of Fame respectfully ackowledges individuals
who have contributed to the arts in Prince Albert and area. Inductees for
the Arts Hall of Fame can be a Supporter of the Arts, Builder of the Arts
or an contributing artist. Guidelines and criteria for future
nominations will be be posted on the website in the New Year.

at the PA Arts Centre, 1010 Central Avenue
The following two FREE Open Art Studio Times have been made possible with
funding from the Community Grant Program, sponsored by the PA Council for
the Arts. This is a free “come and go” open art studio program designed for drop in
participants. Pre-registration is not required, however, we do appreciate knowing
attendance numbers for preparation purposes. Please call: 306-953-4811.
After School Open Art Studio (Ages 10 - 14 yrs) Fee – FREE

Ongoing every Wednesday until November 26 (4:00 – 6:00 pm)
This Afterschool Open Art Studio time is designed for self-motivated young people 10 - 14 yrs, who are interested in art. Materials are provided and a variety of
media will be explored. Direction will be provided for those students wanting it.

This Open Art Studio for Girls is designed for self-motivated young women
providing the opportunity to work on their own art with motivated guidance by

however, not all kids get a chance to participate.
Creative Kids is a charitable program that funds Saskatchewan children who want to take music and dance
lessons, learn to paint or act, speak a family language,
explore different cultures, find out about their heritage, study dinosaur bones or join a number of other
creative pursuits in their community. We fund arts,
heritage, multicultural and Aboriginal activities for
families facing financial barriers. Up to $750 per child,
per year is available for children aged 4 - 19. Most families approved for funding have gross annual incomes
of less than $40,000, although families with higher incomes have been supported depending on individual
circumstances. Applications are assessed individually
primarily on a family’s financial need. Youth living independently may also apply. For additional information contact:
