GOOD TO KNOW
Jump into
an adventure!
Ikaalinen is also much more. Many people
know it primarily due its spa. And no wonder
– the first baths served here as early as the
19th century and today this tradition is
carried on by the largest and most popular
entertainment spa and wellness centre in
the Nordic countries. Ikaalinen is also an
educational, cultural and musical town.

SIGHTS AND
ATTRACTIONS
There is more to see
and marvel at in
Ikaalinen than you can
count on the fingers of
one hand. The smallest
market town in the
country has bloomed
into a big little town of
great experiences.
the WAnhA kAuppAlA Founded BY the emperor
AlexAnder ii in 1858 has been called Finland’s oldest, smallest and
most beautiful market town. Its valuable old building stock has been
preserved reasonably well. Leafy hardwood boulevards and attractive
parks tempt you to take a trip along the alleys of the Kauppala. A guided
walking tour in historical locations is an unforgettable summer experience. During the tour, you may even bump into to the fine ladies of the
Kauppala…
In Wanha Kauppala you
can look back to over
one hundred years ago!
rAhkolA Built circA 1832 has witnessed a great deal during its time.
The handsome building has been, among other things, an inn and a courthouse. Rahkola is a specimen of beautiful Empire style, with clear lines, and
the National Board of Antiquities has agreed on its high value.
ikAAlinen church operating
as a road church in the summer
was inaugurated in 1801. The
wooden cruciform church is an
imposing sight. The robust belfry
accompanying the church was built
a bit later in 1861.
Ikaalinen Spa is the largest Nordic multifunctional spa and holistic
wellness centre. The bubbles and whirlpools of the Water Tropic provide
visitors of all ages with fun and entertainment, and the children’s Waterworld is busy with the sound of happy splashing from morning to evening.
Ruusukas is a specialist shop focusing on Finnish handicrafts, arts and
products from the Frantsila herb farm. It is located within the Ikaalinen
Spa area in the attractive old Spa Mansion.
“Unique cultural milieu and beautiful
lake scenery provide the foundations for the
magnificent tourist attraction in Ikaalinen.
Where would you begin?”
Nalle Family lives in an old log house by Lake Kyrösjärvi. Time flies in
Ti-Ti Nalle’s house playing, singing and dancing. Bring your friends along
and have a great time!
The history of THE Kauppila Farm stretches all the way back to
the 1500s. The buildings around the courtyard present the manual skills
from various centuries. Today, Kauppila Farm is a full-service tourism
centre and a high-quality holiday, festivity and conference location.
Oma Tupa is a special case among the various interesting attractions in
the Wanha Kauppala. It has served as a child welfare clinic, hostel and
Lotta Svärd café and has now found its place as a versatile community hall
with festivities, conferences, exhibitions and performances.
Villages, markets and cultural environments Ikaalinen
Market Square, next to the Church, is open every Wednesday all year. The
Market offers interesting things for anyone to buy, browse and experience.
The offerings include handicrafts, flowers, delicious pastries, berries and
vegetables.
The largest lake in the region and the blue heart of Ikaalinen,
Kyrösjärvi, borders the verdant residential area and the homely countryside villages in the neighbouring areas. Visit, for example, the region
around the old mill of Jylli with its fast-flowing rapids, or Huopio markets
in the village of Luhalahti, which spice up the life in the village.
Wilderness-oriented individuals like to head out to the
national parks of Seitseminen and Helvetinjärvi. Both are suitable for
daytrips and hikes lasting a few days both in summer and winter. The
landscape of Seitseminen consists of moor forests, backwoods hollows,
marshes and open poor fens. Helvetinjärvi’s specialities are deep gorges,
lakes with steep shores, small forest ponds and wild forest landscapes.
ACTIVITIES
Get
moving!
Ikaalinen is surrounded
by fresh air and gorgeous
landscapes. And when
you’ve had enough rest,
you can find activities
for every day of your
vacation from the range
of activities offered by
various adventure and
tourism entrepreneurs.
WHEN you come to Ikaalinen you cannot miss the tour of Wanha
Kauppala, the oldest part of Ikaalinen. Step inside the Kauppala gate and
choose the route to your liking: take a leisurely walk among the old
buildings, or visit the leafy parks and sit down for a while to enjoy a cold
or hot drink after the guided walking tour.
The idyllic Ikaalinen is transformed from a small town into a
musical metropolis a week after midsummer, when thousands of
accordionists and music lovers converge on the Sata-Häme Soi festival.
“The waves of Lake Kyrösjärvi invite
boat trips in the summer.”
Water sports and other action sports supervised by energetic instructors spice up the vacation. Bananaboys offer a diverse selection of activities throughout the year.
On the banks of Jyllinjoki river with its rugged landscape,
you can find the Luomahaara Korsukylä with its tent and dugout saunas.
A nature and canoeing tour is crowned by a succulent game meal in the
shade of the forest.
Golf enthusiasts also enjoy their time in Ikaalinen with their
favourite sport. Ikaalisten Golf offers a varied and challenging course and
practise area located near to the club house. The 9-hole course is located
in the beautiful landscape of Poltinkoski in Riitiala, along the peacefully
flowing river.
Jump on a quad bike, speed through esker landscape on a snowmobile, get excited about curling, try out a paintball war… Skönön Safarit
organises varied and exciting programmes and offers suitable activity
packages to both the youngest and oldest in the family.
Do you like to fish? Pro Kalastus organises high quality fishing trips

on the famous zander waters of the lakes Kyrösjärvi and Rauta-Kulovesi in
Pirkanmaa. You will always learn something new when travelling with an
experienced fishing guide. Ikaalinen’s surroundings offer also excellent
rapids and river areas for fly-fishing and lure-fishing enthusiasts.
Luomajärven Horse Inn exudes traditional countryside atmosphere.
The silence of the idyllic courtyard is broken only by the clatter of the
horses’ hooves. Magnificent terrain with its paths and forest roads opens up
from the door of the stable. The Kievari organises horseback riding excursions and cart rides for both novices and experienced riders.
Peaceful countryside can be enjoyed on the magnificent eskers and
in the fresh pine forests of Hämeenkangas, Vatula and Jämi, which offer tens
of kilometres of hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing and horseback riding routes Lapp pole tents and lean-to shelters along them for
breaks. There are ski trails of various lengths for keep-fit and competitive
skiers, as well as children. When the snow melts, the activities continue in
the form of orienteering, hiking and group outdoor recreation and physical
activity events, as well as in the well-lit cross-country skiing tunnel in Jämi.
ACCOMMODATION
Head on
the pillow.
ikAAlinen SpA offers
accommodation for even larger
groups. There are five hotels with
a thousand beds in all in the spa
area, not to mention the villas in
the Holiday Village. Finland’s most
diverse wellness, pampering and
programme activity adds to the
attraction of the Spa.
After a fun day it is time for a good night’s
sleep. Ikaalinen offers a variety of accommodation, from a bed of pine twigs to granary
accommodation and holiday cottages, to the
warmth of the Ikaalinen Spa. Good night!

ecologically sustainable way among clean nature. To the joy of all Finnish
gourmands, the harvest is collected and carried to the shops around the
year.
Ikaalinen’s wilderness is also a magnificent source of food. Go
fishing, hunting or gather the many varieties of mushrooms and berries
from the forest. The clean countryside and hiking outside are also the
best nourishment for the spirit.
