Bunnings staff set up the entire stall which comes as a huge trolley with everything attached even a kitchen sink. Once unfolded and the canopy set up we were able to unload the full esky’s out of the cars with cold drinks and onions as well as a couple of full bread loaf trays . Turn on the gas and wait for the customers. Congratulation to Carol Stewart for numerous hours spent in liasoning with Bunnings , attending meetings and prior to the day getting the best deals on drinks, sausages, bread, onions , sauces yes including mustard. Not sure whether Phil is still cursing after having cut up 10kg of onions for Carol to precook them for the Friday. Not to forget the table cloth, straws, serviettes and even a specially made stainless steel sausage rack dispenser which worked a treat. A large money box was provided by Bunnings On the day Ralf worked the BBQ with plenty of help from Ema Basic and the money handler Peter Cook. Pictures of all of us in action didn’t happen as we all hand our hands full. The good news is that after expenses we raised a total of $742 More good news Carol has been able to acquire two more dates for January next year Saturday 10th which from all accounts could raise in access of $1000 and Monday 19th. If you are available to help on either one of the days mentioned please let Carol know. A team of 4 persons works well, one cooking, one handling the sales, one preparing and the other serving. 5 July General Meeting 19-07-2014 (a) In conversation (b) Book stall in action (c) Members sign in (d) Did you know (e) Novice, new popular choice section (f) Voting for popular choice (g) Len Waite in action (g) Steven Flood answering some questions from the floor. 6 BROMSMATTA Conference notices, contacts, and booking – www.bromeliad.org.au or phone 0408-202-269 Novotel Sydney Parramatta – www.novotelparramatta.com.au or 02-9630-4999 Early discount until Jan 31, 2015 - $280, after January - $300 To be held at The Novotel Parramatta. The day came and the weather was atrocious, a wet day had been predicted and boy were they right for once, it never stopped all day. About 35 people braved the weather conditions. The meeting went off very well, some were able to take a look around the garden and bush house between the lighter showers. Many thanks to Stan and Jane for hosting the meeting at their home, the meeting was a great success and everyone was impressed with the selection of cakes for afternoon tea, which Jane had slaved over a hot oven to prepare. Everyone went home very happy. Our conference committee has been making headway with the conference centre at Caloundra booked for the event. We have money in our conference account, the account is growing slowly but we have until 2017 to raise sufficient funds. We have a sausage sizzle taking place at Bunning’s on the 5 th September that will add the funds for the conference, so see us there. A date, time and place has been decided on for the Christmas function, Ralf will have all the details for you in the newsletter, so sign up and come along, and enjoy a day out with your bromeliad friends. New Laws For those who haven’t heard, Washington State just passed two laws, legalized gay marriage and legalized marijuana. The fact that gay marriage and marijuana were legalized on the same day makes perfect biblical sense, because Leviticus 20:13 says: “If a man lies with another man they should be stoned”. We just hadn’t interpreted it correctly before. 10 General (Garden) Meeting 16th August 2014 At Stan & Jane Walkley's Residence—Rosemount A somewhat rainy day didn’t spoil the enjoyable Garden meeting with attendance numbers better than expected. A birds eye view looking up to the Homestead. Steven Flood on arrival, guests Fay & Sinclair Paku from Sippy Downs. President Cheryl explaining about imported plants, Lou Randall with an unusual specimen and a very attentative crowd watching the proceedings.
