The printed image sits on a new ground, always in the here and now, separated from yet connected to its origins. This group exhibition shines with images, artwork and ideas explored in the many creative courses of Nathan Homestead. View the remarkable display of new artworks created with flair and skill by adult art students and see the vibrant work created by younger students. All of us here in Aotearoa carry the legacy of recent or long distant migrations to the land of the long white cloud. We are connected to, and separated from, the rest of the world by salt water. We live close to the sea, it nourishes us, connects us to home and opens us up to discovery. The works included provide an insight into the range of arts practices available at the arts centre. This is also an excellent opportunity to view a selection of art work created by Nathan Homestead’s skilled and dedicated tutors. The word wansolwara comes from the Solomon Islands. The word comes from the pidgin dialect and literally means ‘one salt water’. The notion arising from this is one ocean, one people. Come and see the 5th IMPressive print show, which is also part of the Urbanesia Festival. This year the show is open to artists who develop work from a practice that acknowledges current and historical print practices. Curated by Steve Lovett and Cerisse Palalagi. 5 6 ‘E tipu, e rea, mō ngā rā o tō ao; Grow tender shoot for the days of your world.’ South Auckland War Memorials: Cenotaphs, Crosses, Churches and Trees When: 4 December-11 January When: 4-12 October Where:Nathan Homestead Gallery Where:Nathan Homestead Foyer This exhibition presents the wonderful artwork by Year 10 learners from Alfriston College, striving for success and grasping all skills and knowledge presented to them.
