A Nation’s Strength
Not gold, but only man can make a people great and strong:
Men who, for truth and honor’s sake, stand fast and suffer long.
Brave men who work while others sleep, who dare while others fly—
They build a nation’s pillars deep and lift them to the sky.
—Ralph Waldo Emerson

We could learn a lot from crayons: Some
are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull,
some have weird names, and all are
different colors … but they all exist very
nicely together in the same box.
—Robert Fulghum
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born,
and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a
time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a
time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to
keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to
speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

“Mrs. Dot”
Mrs. Dot Wilson was a lot of things to a lot of people. She was a wife, mother, sister,
grandmother, great-grandmother friend and neighbor. She taught some of us to cut collards, some to root flowers, and some how to cook gravy. She had a passion for missions…her family and friends and for her church!
When I think of WMU (now WOM) – I think of Mrs. Dot… she was a driving force around
our WMU for over 30 years. She encouraged women of all ages to get involved with missions and stay involved in missions. She went on mission trips and worked right here in
our own community tirelessly as long she was able. (Well, really even beyond when she was able…she
kept serving)
She also grew beautiful roses… and this makes me think of her too…
Roses… yellow roses are your best friend. In fact, yellow roses are a traditional symbol of
friendship, so there you go. With their warm, sunny disposition, a bouquet of yellow roses tends to light up
the room, making them a perfect way to say thanks, get well, congratulations or just, “Hey, thanks for being
you.”
Mrs. Dot was a friend… to many… she would light up a room… sometimes with a sunny disposition and
sometimes with fire... but either way, she kept things bright! (Smile)
As we say good-bye to our friend here on this earth, we have the assurance of seeing her again because of
the testimony that she lived… by faith. I would challenge all of us to take a look at our lives and see if we
have that same sacrificial life. Do we put our church in the place of honor that the Bride of Christ deserves? Slowly we are losing many of that generation who were willing to work hard to keep our church
as a viable and healthy part of our community. Our church will never be the same again, because of our
loss… but it can move forward for Christ if we all cared as much as Mrs. Dot.
In Loving Memory,
Sherrell Ott
Mrs. Dot went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 12, 2014. A memorial service was held
Sunday, August 17 at 3 PM with burial in the church cemetery.
Financial Peace University will begin on September 7th. The class will meet for 9 weeks. Class is
from 4:30-6 PM. Please order you materials online at www.daveramsey.com/fpu/locations/
