FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
5 Year Review
ISH had an extremely intense week with the presence of our visiting five-year accreditation team.
CIS/NEASAC and IB met with Leadership, Management, The Board, Parents, Students, Teachers and
Support Staff and discussed all the elements of learning and life at ISH.
The report written by the school, with input from all stakeholders reflected on the progress since the last
visiting team‟s recommendations (5 years ago), what we had done, where we are now and where we need
to go (and how to get there).
The seven key components of the review were:
·
School Guiding Statements
·
Teaching and Learning
·
Governance and Leadership
·
Faculty and Support Staff
·
Access to Teaching and Learning
·
School Culture and Partnership for Learning
·
Operational Systems
A verbal summary from the team at the end of the visit was that ISH had developed significantly since the
last review and overall the school was in a „good place‟. Two areas we now need to work on is a review of
our current mission, vision and core values and to implement strategic planning, the later is something the
board is currently working on and the former will be completed by the end of this academic year.
I would like to thank everyone who was involved in this in any way for your time, commitment, energy
and positive comments about ISH. Once we receive the report, more detailed information will be shared.
I wish you all a restful week with your family and for those who celebrate Diwali, enjoy and be safe!!

This past weekend witnessed ISH hosting the International Schools Activities Conference-India

visited Hyderabad, for this inaugural competition.
The participating schools were:

The visiting schools joined up with ISH to participate in one of the most exciting girls‟ football
tournament that Hyderabad has seen in a long time. All 8 games were played at ISH‟s new grassed
playing fields, a grueling test of stamina and character for any student-athlete.
At the opening ceremony, the teams were escorted by students from the ISH Elementary school as
they received a warm welcome in front of the whole school community. Head of School, Dr. Oli
Tooher-Hancock, welcomed the student-athletes and wished them all success both on and off the
field. Sponsors Dr. Reddy‟s Labs and Sante Fe Relocation Services were applauded for their
positive contribution in supporting the tournament.
The action on the field began and soon goals were being scored and saved, slide tackles made,
along with displays of positive teamwork. Loud cheering from the excited crowds was to be heard
far and wide. The second day of play began with each team rising to the challenge. Win, lose or
draw they came off the field, covered in the Hyderabad sunshine, smiles and high fives all around,
celebrating their sportsmanship.
2
In the final game, ISH played a gritty and determined MBIS. The ISH girl‟s quality & style
overcame the tough MBIS defense to win 2-0.
At the awards ceremony the student-athletes and coaches were applauded for the genuine
sportsmanship and true sense of camaraderie. ISH‟s Secondary Principal was on hand to present the
awards which included the ISACI tournament “Sportsmanship” awards. ISH‟s recipients were:
Gabrielle Grobler and Jehanne Pocquet du Haut-Jusse.
As the sun set on the tournament in Hyderabad, the visiting girls Football team prepared to fly back

ISH Boys Basketball Vipers Earn 3rd Place in New Delhi
The ISH Boys Basketball Vipers travelled to Delhi
for a season-ending two day tournament at The
British School, New Delhi, as part of ISACI.
The other three teams there were:
The British School, New Delhi, Panthers
Mercedes Benz School, Pune, Eagles
Stonehill International School, Bangalore, Tigers
4
Despite being bitten by the injury and sickness bug, the ISH Vipers battled hard and played well. From four
games, the team‟s record was 2 wins and 2 losses, ending up in third place. Here are the match-by match
details:
Friday October 10, 2014
Game 1: The British School New Delhi
36
ISH Hyderabad
23
The Vipers put up a good fight against the eventual
tournament champions, staying neck and neck with the
Panthers well into the second half.
Game 2: ISH, Hyderabad
28
Mercedes Benz International School, Pune 26
This game was an intense, hard-fought contest that saw
MBIS start pulling away at the beginning of the third
quarter to go up by several points. But, ISH fought back
and finally took the lead for good in the fourth quarter,
eventually hanging on for the victory. The Vipers‟ team
defense was really good for most of this game.
Saturday October 11, 2014
Game 3: The Tigers (SIS, Bangalore) beat the Vipers(ISH) by 8 points to set up a rematch for the two
teams for the tournament‟s 3rd place match. It was a tough loss for the Vipers to take as ISH had a 2 game
winning streak vs. Stonehill, and a feeling of confidence after beating the MBIS Eagles the previous day.
Game 4 (3rd place match): ISH Hyderabad
Stonehill International School, Babgalore
37
22
In this game, ISH took care of business, got its revenge for the morning loss, and took 3rd place. Despite
being sick, Varun played a Captain‟s innings, thus helping lead ISH to victory, along with Daniel, Arjun,
and Abhinav. This was Arjun's final game for ISH. George is to be commended for his excellent defense
and energy.
All in all, it was a fun weekend with the team showing a
lot of character and poise, to go along with the 3rd place
finish- remarkable really for such a young team.
Congratulations to the entire team on the fine season.

ISH in Pink
This week, ISH turned PINK in support of raising breast cancer awareness. Students posted messages and
pink ribbons on the Tree of Awareness, reinforced solidarity with the campaign by donning pink in all
shades and hues, and decorated cupcakes with pink icing and sprinkles. What was really awesome was the
photograph taken of the whole school, with students, faculty, and support staff posing in the shape of pink
ribbon, symbolic of the fight against Breast Cancer. We hope that this week has heightened awareness of
the ailment and created respect for those who have survived the trauma.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWS
Trip to the Nehru Zoo
Grade 1 and 2 visited the Nehru Zoo to observe
animal habitats and how animals adapt to their
habitat or surroundings. We observed different
animals in their habitats and how each habitat met the
needs of that particular animal. It was also a great
opportunity for Grade 1 to revisit physical
characteristic of animals and how they are different.
Students had great fun seeing real life animals and
making valid connections to what they have been
learning. The electric bus ride and having lunch together
with peers from other grades made the trip fun and
worthwhile.

SECONDARY SCHOOL NEWS
News from the Service Learning Department: Grade 8 Initiative
The date was 9/10/14 when Grade 8 created the
special “Fruit Salad and Custard Sale” as part of
our Service learning project. It was during the same
time as the football matches and provided great
refreshment for all the people who were boiling in
the afternoon heat. All of grade 8 pitched in to
make the Fruit custard. If people had second
servings for the custard, they probably had thirds,
fourths and fifths. The soccer players found it great
after running around in the sun for so long. It was a
great success and we have raised approximately
Rs.3000 for charity. All of the students worked
really hard to see it through and it was great seeing
it happen.
All the credit goes to the two people, Mrs Namrata and Mr Daruri, who made sure that all the soccer
players and audience didn‟t faint from dehydration and also the fact that we created wholesome yummy
custard and raised money for a great cause!

News From the language Department: Grade7and 8 Inter mediate and Advanced
French
Fun learning French!!!
Teamwork, enjoyment and learning went hand in hand in
this Celebration mode at the conclusion of the current unit
that the students were doing. It was a consolidation of
their learning of days, dates, numbers, birthdays,
invitations and expressions relating to celebrations in
French Language. It was a party fully planned for by the
Middle school students. A humorous skit by one group,
math quizzes by another, Hangman and darkbox games
were some of the highlights. All in all it was an enjoyable
experience using their learning to celebrate.
To echo some of their sentiments:
Arundhati "Lots of fun to do the darkbox game"
Nithin: 'Nice
Natasha ''It a fun and unique class activity"
