We are inspired by John XXIII’s prophetic opening of the windows of the Church. We welcome the fresh air of the Holy Spirit, inviting every person to share in the responsibility of enriching the life and faith of our community by sharing their gifts and talents.” 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time: 25/26 October 2014 Dear Friends in Christ Jesus, We witness in the recent years that people kill other people in the name of religion and terrorism in the name of religion. They are so conscious about the love of God and indifferent when it comes to the love of neighbour. In today’s Gospel Jesus says, “"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind." This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: "You shall love your neighbour as yourself." On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets" It is three dimensional: Love of God, Love of neighbour and Love of oneself. Jesus invites us to love others as we love ourselves. All are created in the image and likeness of God if so we need to treat others with dignity and respect. We read in the first letter of John “Those who say, 'I love God,' and hate their brothers or sisters, are liars; for those who do not love a brother or sister whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen" (4:20). True love of God and neighbour are the two sides of the same coin. It is said, “God of the oppressed and the God of the oppressor cannot be the same”. Let us love and respect all as they carry the image of God. We also pray for the peace in the world. This week end two couples, Neil DONNELLY - Emma HARVEY and Francisco CABALLERO – Danielle SANTOS are getting married. We pray that love be the basis of their marital life. May God Bless them with His choicest blessings. God Bless you all. Kind Regards, Fr. Sarlabus cjsarlabus@gmail.com House Keepers Theresa Cassar and Brenda Recchia REFLECTION To separate the two great commandments is a tragedy and goes clean contrary to the Gospel. Yet unfortunately this often happens. Those who have faith often have no love, and those who love often have no faith. Thus the Gospel has been torn in two. Jesus spoke of two great commandments. The first– that we should love God. The second– that we should love our neighbour. He didn't say that they were the same thing, but that they are like two sides of the one coin. If we want the total Gospel we must have both. He himself showed us how to do this. PARISH NEWS From the Parish Council Bart Sarlabus Chair From the first Weekend of October, Saturday Reconciliation will be from 5.00 - 5.45pm. “Charity, desiring to do God’s will, is able to do everything: it hopes in all things, it bears all things.” –St. John XXIII, 11 May 1963 Volunteers are needed! PASTORAL ASSOCIATE & SACRAMENTAL CO-ORDINATOR—SUE ANDRUSKIN We are reviewing four options for the SJ23 Wall of Remembrance, namely a 3D bas relief cast bronze plaque, an integrated bronze image plaque, a stainless steel baked enamel plaque and an aluminum reverse lettered plaque. Samples of these options will be posted at the church foyer and at the Parish Office for feedback and comments. However, we are unable to procure this plaque in time to have the wall dedicated by Sunday, 2 Nov 2014. Instead, I am recommending to Fr. John that we postpone the date of the wall dedication to Sunday, 30 November. As far as funding is concerned, we have received $2k in pledges and close to $1k in cash donations so far. We are continuing to raise funds for these, so please see me regarding monetary pledges and/or services like rendering of the wall or landscaping of the wall area. We will also be holding leaving collections at weekend Masses for this. We reiterate our invitation for volunteers for the new Parish Hospitality team who will be the “face” of the community at masses, sacramental programs and other pastoral activities.in 2015, so interested parishioners may sign up at the Parish Office or email me. The core unit of the team, however, will be formed as soon as Fr. John comes back from his holiday, so please register soon. The Oct. 28 rotation of the SJ23 weekly rosary devotion will be hosted by the Manoj family at 31 Meurants Lane, Glenwood. Host families for Nov. 25 and Dec. 9 onwards are needed. Have a great week!
