Title: Domain: Grade: Organizational Unit: Primary Location: Type of contract: Duration of contract : Senior Project officer Curriculum design and development P4 Innovation and Leadership in Curriculum and Learning Geneva Project appointment 12 months* Annual salary: Single rate: approx. 131,909 USD Dependent rate: approx. 141,652 USD Deadline (midnight, Paris time): 16 November 2014 Application to be sent to: IBE Geneva * Extension of the appointment is subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST Within the framework of the Curriculum Support Services to Member States (SSMS), the Senior Project Officer will contribute to the implementation of IBE focus area “Innovation and Leadership in Curriculum and Learning”. This focus area refers to four main functions of the IBE: norms and standard setting, laboratory of ideas, advocacy and dialogue and capacity development. It encompasses the reconceptualization and repositioning of curriculum in national and regional development agendas linked to the post-2015 educational agenda, repositioning curriculum as an indispensable tool for Lifelong Learning (LLL) and the analysis of critical and current issues in curriculum – mainly ECCE, youth education, ICT and pedagogy, global citizenship education, STEM and inclusive education- with the view of developing curriculum frameworks and prototypes for areas of high demand and where Member States have less experience. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Director of the IBE. He/she will: Conduct, manage, follow-up and assess the impact of technical assistance to Member States with regard to the design, development and implementation of balanced and responsive curricula within a lifelong learning perspective and across levels of the education system; Contribute to the production of guidelines, frameworks and prototypes for the development of responsive curricula as well as to the development and assessment of learners’ competencies acquired through such curricula; Contribute to the production of guidelines, frameworks and prototypes for developing curricula on ECCE and integrating them into existing curricula and the syllabus; Conduct applied research as well as broad consultations with stakeholders – ministries of education (education policy makers, curriculum developers/specialists, supervisors, principals, educators, teacher trainers, researchers, etc.), universities, social sectors, civil society and development partners - on needs, issues, trends, strategies and effective practices relating to the development of curricula for ECCE; Contribute to the production of thematic modules as adds-on to IBE Curriculum Resource Packs (CRP) encompassing critical and current curriculum issues in order to support training through the IBE-UNESCO diploma courses on curriculum and other capacity-development activities; Participate as trainer/facilitator in the diploma courses, customized workshops and any other capacity-development related activities; Forge partnerships to mobilize and manage resources in order to implement initiatives relating to SSMS on processes of curriculum renewal, design and development; and Assist in any other activity relating to IBE focus area “Innovation and Leadership in Curriculum and Learning” and contribute effectively to the broader scope of the work of the IBE. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Advanced University Degree (at least Master level or equivalent) in ECCE, (an emphasis on curriculum design, development and implementation would be an asset) WORK EXPERIENCE: UNESCO DOES NOT CHARGE A FEE AT ANY STAGE OF THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS. 7 to 10 years of progressively responsible relevant experience in ECCE with particular emphasis on 0-3 years of which preferably 3 to 5 years has been acquired at international level; Solid experience in curriculum design, development and implementation at all levels of ECCE level (0 to 8 years) Proven operational experience in articulating ECCE within its levels and with primary education Evidenced operational experience in supporting the provision of ECCE services across setting Solid experience in conducting consultation and collaboration with MoEs, universties, social sectors, civil society and global development partners; and Solid experience in supporting countries in implementing processes of curriculum renewal, design and development and with a focus on ECCE. SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: A self-starter and good team player with strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to work in a multicultural and multilingual environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity; Strong and demonstrated ability to write and edit compelling, clear, and accurate content to diverse audiences, for general publication; Excellent planning and time management skills; Ability to identify and solve problems, work under pressure and organize and complete complex projects and meet tight deadlines; Ability to lead and effectively manage and inspire task teams; High familiarity with publication processes and requirements; Very Good IT skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Prezi, Pubisher, etc.); Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and Understanding of the relevant business processes, operating strategies, policies and procedures within the UN environment would be an asset LANGUAGES: Fluency in English and good knowledge of French . Knowledge of Arabic or Spanish would be an asset BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS UNESCO’s salaries are calculated in US dollars and exempt from income tax. They consist of a basic salary and a post adjustment which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station and exchange rates.
