Nov. 3! forgotten your access codes and passwords? Then please stop ! ! by the Media Center at conferences. On a different note . . . if you are a regular reader of the eBanner each week, then you will recall my impassioned pleas to you in the past to engage with your child and examine the technology you have provided to them. The #1 issue that our community policing officers from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department deal with pertains to misuse and abuse of social media and online activity. Sexting (the taking and sending of sexually inappropriate pictures and text) is rampant with middle level kids, high school students and adults. Please note that we are seeing more than an alarming amount of that activity in our school and community. The best defense is awareness and vigilance to inspect your child's devices (without prior notice). Knowing your parents are aware and checking will make students think twice about participating in the extremely dangerous and harmful behavior. Thank you for partnering with us to keep all kids safe in the cyber world and in their social interactions. We will be open from 8am-2:45pm Monday-Thursday, and 8am-12:30pm on Friday. We will also be open on the first night of Parent/Teacher conferences, Monday Oct. 27 from 5-8:30pm. Our book fair provides students, parents, and staff an opportunity to purchase great books as well as other fun merchandise. In return for hosting the book fair, our media center earns books, products, and materials from Scholastic. Parents and family members are encouraged to support the BMS Media Center by shopping at our book fair; please be sure to stop at the office for a visitor badge when you visit. A special note to our many Jeff Kinney Fans--his newest book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, will be available to pre-order for $8.99 + tax during the fair with shipments beginning November 3! You can also shop online. Our school still earns rewards, and the items are shipped to BMS at the conclusion of the fair. To shop online or to see a preview of items available at the book fair, visit our online fair homepage at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/baldwinstreetmiddleschool On Friday, October 31st, BMS students are invited to wear holiday garb in recognition of Halloween and check out each other’s costumes. A good time will be had by all by following just a few guidelines: • • • • • • • Costumes must be in good taste and follow the same dress code standards of modesty. Come prepared with a change of clothes in the event a costume is deemed inappropriate. Please . . . no blood, gore, fake weapons, cross-dressing (like the opposite gender), etc. Students must be able to sit at their desk without the costume causing a disruption to class. Masks are OK but MUST be removed during class. If make-up or hair coloring is used, it must be done so at home and LEFT there. Don’t bring it here. PE activities will be held as normal so please plan accordingly. Choir Notes: Congratulations to all of our choir students who gave a terrific performance at our first concert last night. A special thank you to all of the parents who helped chaperone our both the concert and the rehearsal. Thank you also to Mr. Dave Powers who accompanied us on the saxophone. As always, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail! Operation Christmas Child Community Service Project Please join with the Praise and Worship/F.C.A. group by donating shoe boxes with gifts in them for children in need around the world. We kicked off this event by showing the kids a video of what Operation Christmas Child is about at our Praise and Worship meeting on October 10. The directions for how to choose the gifts to put in the box and how to pack the box can be found at this website: http://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/pack-a-shoe-box/. The boxes can be brought to Mr. Schuur’s room (Room 219) or your homeroom any day up until Friday, November 14. Please make sure the shoe box has a label on it, whether it is for a boy or a girl, and make sure the top is not wrapped shut. If you can include a $7 donation either online, or using the form in the brochure your student got, it helps cover shipping costs. Last year our school donated over 100 shoe boxes with gifts in them, and our goal this year is to donate over 100 filled shoe boxes again. Thank you for participating with us.
