with a race event
Each week, we pair a member with a new pair of sneakers.
Sitting at the YVR airport, 41-year-old Dorothy Luebke joked to her husband, “I should do
the BMO half marathon someday!” Her husband turned to her and said: “Sign up for it, right
now!” It was December, 2013, and Luebke crossed that finish line, and many more. “I love
that I can run anywhere. I never travel without my running shoes as I love to explore towns
by foot,” she says. “Just last week I was out running in Ottawa and Port Franks Ontario while
visiting family.” Luebke, who works at Cycles Lambert in customer service and runs at lunch
with her friends, is aiming to finish Sunday’s race in 2:12. Coming back from a cycling injury,
this time would be a PB. “I want to prove to myself that injuries and set backs can’t keep me
from reaching my goals,” she says. For her event, Brooks is outfitting her in their Ghost 7, an
updated version of a fast and light neutral sneaker. And Luebke needs the sneakers. Since
the injury, she pledged to her coworkers to run five 2014 half marathons. “I compete in the
Seymour Valley Half Marathon in September, and will be doing the MEC Steveston half in
November as well as the Vancouver Historic half so that I can reach my goal,” she says.
“I am a happier, fitter person because of my running.”
