October half term 2014 – spooky happenings all across Sheffield (and beyond)! Don’t forget your Passport to Learning… There are lots of fun and exciting activities taking place outside of normal school hours in different places across Sheffield and beyond where children and young people can collect learning credits. These credits will be added to the ones some children collect in some schools to earn Children’s University Awards. To collect these credits, they need a Passport to Learning. These cost £2 and are available to purchase at Sheffield libraries and some Learning Destinations. Remember, the credits lead to awards right up to 1000 hours! 30 credits – Bronze 65 credits – Silver 100 credits – Gold …and at those intervals up to 1000 hours, so 30 awards in total! Do you have your Children’s University Passport to Learning yet? If the answer is yes, then that’s great news! BUT, to make sure you are awarded the credits you have earned, the Learning Destinations in Sheffield MUST put your details on a register AND send that register into us! If they don’t, we won’t know where you have visited and can’t award your credits. It might be that their staff are really busy and they’ve forgotten, or they might be new to the organisation and just don’t know that we need the register. So, every time you visit a SHEFFIELD Learning Destination, remind them to keep a register AND send it into us! Remember, if there’s no register, it means no credits! They can always contact us for more help and we can visit them to explain the process if we need to. See the next page for what to do when visiting a Learning Destination OUTSIDE Sheffield (the form is at the end of the newsletter!). The great news is that there are loads of you (14,000+) running around Sheffield (and beyond) collecting credits in your Passports to Learning! This means that we are busy in the office inputting all the numbers from the registers ready to produce your certificates! They WILL be given to you, but it takes us a little time to write them all so thank you for being patient. Have a look through this newsletter to see which Learning Destinations have special October Half Term activities on!* Details of all our Learning Destinations can be found later in this newsletter too or keep visiting our website as this list grows all the time – www.sheffield.gov.uk/CU or email us on CU@sheffield.gov.uk . If you know of a local club or group, just let us know via our website and we’ll invite them to join CU for FREE! *please note: we advise you contact the Learning Destinations first to check details of events and activities. 1 Going away in the holidays? Have a fantastic time and don’t forget to visit a Learning Destination while you’re there! Visit the national Children’s University website (www.childrensuniversity.co.uk/maps) to search for Learning Destinations near you, and contact details to find out what’s happening. Sea Life Centres, museums and English Heritage sites are just the start… Take along your Passport to Learning, get it stamped and fill in a Learning Destination Diary Sheet (attached at the back of this newsletter or you can download one from www.sheffield.gov.uk/cu ). Send that into us when you get back and we’ll award your credits! Without a diary sheet, we won’t be able to award your credits!
