Congratulations to the following students who passed the video audition for this year’s Governor’s
Honors Program. GHP is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students who
will be rising juniors and seniors. It’s designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social

There are so many terrific opportunities for you to snag some holiday gifts and add to your student’s
band account! Here’s a rundown of some of the upcoming opportunities:

BRAX Spirit Cups / Popcorn / Travel Cups / Fun Pasta — If you’ve got sports fans on your list, this
is your kind of fundraiser. Tailgaters, bowl game lovers – if you root for the boys of fall, you’ll
like this fundraiser. The fundraiser kicked off on 15 October, and orders are due by 29 October,
so act fast! The pasta and the other items belong to two separate companies, so it will be
easiest to maintain separate envelopes for each of your orders. Checks for the items will still be
made out to the band, but should be separate for each of the companies’ orders.
Charleston Wraps — All the clever gifts you buy from the other fundraisers will need to be
wrapped when you give them away, and this is the fundraiser for that. Charleston Wraps are
known for their reversible wrapping paper and unique gift accessories. This fundraiser kicked
off 20 October, and orders are due by 3 November.
Panera Bread — Join the McIntosh High School “Spirit of McIntosh” Band and Color Guard on
Monday, November 3 from 4-8pm at Panera Bread. They will donate a percentage of sales
during the event to the Band and Color Guard. So come out, buy some bread and make some
bread for our students! Oh, and bring the flyer, either on paper or on your phone! (the flyer is
included in this newsletter).
This is the schedule for Friday’s Senior Night events.

Be True To Your School…
Completing your first season of marching band gives you many things: a sense of pride, great leg
muscles, and a marching band letter. Those coveted “M’s” will be awarded at the Marching Band
Awards Night and Potluck Dinner on Tuesday, November 18th. Many students choose to have theirs
sewn onto a letter jacket, available at T&G Allsports in Fayetteville. If this is your choice, it’s
recommended that you make arrangements to get fitted first, so that you get your jacket back in a
timely manner.
Exhibition Meal Order Refunds
If you prepaid for meals at the Sandy Creek Exhibition, which was cancelled, that money has been
credited to your band account. If you choose, you can allow the money to remain in your account to be
used against current or future band fees. If you would prefer, you can request a refund check from our
treasurer.
All-State Horn Prep Clinic
Whitewater Middle School Band is hosting an All State Prep Clinic for horn players on Saturday,
November 8, from 2:30-5:00pm in the bandroom at the school. The clinic is open to middle and high
school horn players and will be led by Anna Dodd, horn instructor at Columbus State University. The
clinic will cover sight-reading, scale technique, etude coaching, and successful audition mentality. The
clinic is $25, and you can pay in cash on the day of the event or prepay at this website.
All-State Mock Auditions for Flutes
Several local flute instructors have come together to hold mock auditions for the upcoming All-State
tryouts. The mock audition will be held on November 1 at St. Paul Lutheran School in Peachtree City and
audition slots are available beginning at 9am. Participants will go through the all-state scales and etudes
and play a sight reading example. Before leaving, they will receive score sheets, verbal comments, and
some audition advice. The audition fee is $20. To request a slot or for information, please contact Sarah
Ambrose by email or by phone at 404/217-1484.
Concession Stand Help, Please!
Our last few opportunities to operate the concession stand are coming up, and we need your help.
Please consider volunteering a few hours of your time to raise funds for your band and your students’
band account. You can sign up on Charms for this Friday’s game (Senior Night). Also, an end-of-season
cleanup will happen in November – keep watching for details and contact Sue Lane with questions.

Band Board Meeting Notice
The next meeting of the MHS Band Board will be at Panera Bread, from 6-7pm, on Monday, November
3, 2014. This ties into our fundraiser, so bring your bakery cravings! Please remember that all parents
and interested persons are always invited to attend the meetings – only board members vote.
Marching Band Awards Planning and Preparations
The Marching Band Awards will be on Tuesday, November 18, beginning with a covered dish meal and
then moving into the award program. Band Boosters will provide drinks, paper products and cake, and
each section is asked to bring a covered dish enough to feed 10 people. Please see below for the type of
food item your students section is assigned.
WOODWINDS — salad dish of any type
BRASS — a potato/pasta side dish or vegetable casserole
COLOR GUARD — meat dish (sandwich platter, chicken tender platter, meatballs, meat
casserole, etc.)
PERCUSSION — meat dish (sandwich platter, chicken tender platter, meatballs, meat casserole,
etc.)
Parents are asked to help clean up after the meal so that our honored students aren’t working. Band
leadership will not be dismissed until the cafeteria is in order. Thank you in advance for everyone's
participation in the clean-up effort; it will not take long if everyone pitches in.
Kennesaw State University’s School of Music will present their 9th Annual Collage Concert on Saturday,
February 7, 2015. There will be two performances, at 5pm and at 8pm. Collage is the signature
production of the School and a primary fundraiser to support scholarships. Each year the show features
student and faculty soloists, chamber groups, and ensembles totaling over 200 performers with special
repertoire, unique staging, and seamless transitions. A reception and raffle will be held between the
performances. VIP tickets are also available, which include a special reception following the 8pm
performances, a silent auction, and premium seating. For tickets, click here or call the box office at
470/578-6550. Until October 31, use coupon code 9OFFCOLLAGE to get $9 off each regular, full-priced
ticket.
“Back to the Future” Gets 30th Anniversary Screenings With Live Orchestra
No mere re-release for one of the most iconic science fiction movies of all time. The time-travel classic
will get a limited theatrical release with live orchestra, including 15 minutes of music that Alan Silvestri
wrote specifically for these engagements. So far, only some lucky Swiss in Lucerne will get to hear this,
but we can hope for a date closer to Atlanta. In related news, there’s a Kickstarter campaign to fund a
hoverboard. Get your piece of it here.

The Beatles, Bob Dylan…Beatboxing?
Ever wonder what your album covers do when you’re not looking? If you ask Roy Kafri, they beatbox.
