A simple way to offer Support, Comfort and Care to a loved one facing cancer
Thursdays, November 6 or November 20
6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, November 8
10:00 a.m. - Noon
If you are a caregiver you are probably aware that caregiving can be both rewarding and
challenging. With a strong desire to help, caregivers may feel some frustration when it is not clear
how you can help or what you can do to make a difference in a loved one's comfort.
This program teaches safe and simple hands-on techniques to help loved ones feel better in most
circumstances. Touch and massage are among the most favored forms of support in cancer care.
Scientific studies have shown that simple hands-on methods can reduce the severity of symptoms
and side effects of treatment. Whether you give a simple hand or foot massage, a back or shoulder
massage or even just gentle touch without movement, you can help your loved one find greater
comfort, relaxation and relief!
This class also teaches safety precautions and adaptations, preparation and positioning, and will
also offer guidance on using Acupressure points to ease the side effects of anxiety, pain and
nausea.
Class is taught by Robin Van Ert and Kathy Ginn of 4 Rivers Center for Well Being, located inside
the Center for Life Enrichment. Robin and Kathy are both massage therapists and have combined
experience of over 35 years in their profession. They've both worked at Meriter Hospital in
Madison, WI, inside the Integrative Medicine Clinic. They have now relocated to Oconomowoc
where they both specialize in massage for those living with and recovering from cancer.
Development of this program was sponsored by the National Cancer Institute!

Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family
scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose,
she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by
blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave
Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State-and she would do it alone. Told with
suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and
pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened,
strengthened, and ultimately healed her.
