International workshop CULTURE AND INSTITUTIONS IN POST-SOVIET RUSSIA 10-11 December, 2015 University of Helsinki, Aleksanteri Institute Organised by Sanna Turoma, Meri Kulmala and Saara Ratilainen Description This multidisciplinary workshop aims to produce a critical and comprehensive account of reforms and transformations that have taken place in Russian cultural institutions since the disintegration of the Soviet Union. Ultimately, the project will enrich our understanding of Russian cultural politics and institutional developments in the age of neoliberal globalization, post-industrial consumerism, multiculturalism, and transnational identities. The analysis focuses on formal institutions affiliated with cultural production and associated with state funding and/or citizen and volunteer activities, and focuses on the role of agency in the institutional production of culture.
