PUBLICATION St. Paul’s Giant Book Sale To Commence This Sunday WESTFIELD — St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is gearing up for its 27th Annual Giant Book Sale in the church’s newly renovated Parish Hall. Sponsored by the Friends of Music at St. Paul’s, the sale will run this Sunday, November 2, noon to 5 p.m.; Monday, November 3, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Tuesday, November 4, 9 a.m. to noon. Tuesday will be Bag Day, when customers can purchase all they can put into one grocery bag for $4. The sale will feature thousands of donated books in categories including hardback and paperback fiction, history, biography, science and medicine, political science, psychology, gardening, the arts, sports, pets, crafts, how-to, self improvement, languages, books for teens and a large selection of children’s books, puzzles and games. Also for sale will be low-cost videos, software, CDs, records, DVDs, oversized books and sheet music. All sale proceeds are used to fund the various musical programs at St. Paul’s, to which the general public is always invited. “The Friends of Music at St. Paul’s wish to thank all book donors and buyers who have made this annual Giant Book Sale a success for the past 26 years,” said Charles Banks, director of music at St. Paul’s. “This year, as always, our dedicated volunteers are looking forward to meeting and greeting returning customers, and all new customers will be welcomed as well.” Donations for the sale currently are being accepted and may be dropped off daily through Saturday, November 1. The concert will be free and open to the public. Ms. Witkowski is well known both for her work as an instrumental composer and as an innovator in bringing together jazz and liturgy. She is a frequent presenter on jazz and spirituality and currently serves as the interim minister of music at the Park Avenue Christian Church in Manhattan. She was the winner of the Great American Jazz Piano Competition in 2002 and has appeared on Marian McPartland’s radio show “Piano Jazz.” Her brand-new solo piano recording, “Raindrop: Improvisations with Chopin,” will be released on Saturday, November 15, and will be available at the Willow Grove performance. On her newest recording Ms. Witkowski marries Chopin works as a solo pianist with Brazilian, jazz and free improvisation. Deanna Witkowski Community Event to Address Being Jewish in 21st Century SCOTCH PLAINS – Area synagogues and Jewish organizations will collaborate to sponsor a oneday program, “Why Be Jewish in the 21st Century? Beginning the Conversation,” on Sunday, November 16. It will take place at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Central New Jersey. The day will be divided into two sessions: a session from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for parents and grandparents of children from infants through age 15, and the other from 1 to 4 p.m. for parents and grandparents of older children, age 16 through adulthood. This participatory event is free and open to the community. Pre-registration is strongly suggested. The program will feature remarks from best-selling author Doron Kornbluth, whose books include “Why Be Jewish?” and “Raising Kids to LOVE Being Jewish.” An internationally renowned speaker, Mr. Kornbluth makes presentations in more than 50 cities annually to a wide range of audiences.
