of Society for Ethnopharmacology, Jhansi Chapter being organized at the Jhansi, during November
14-15, 2014. The conference will highlight on the development of traditional medicines, herbal
formulations, dietary supplements, phytoceuticals and pharmaceuticals from natural sources. The
promotion of indigenous medicinal system in primary health care is an integrated scope of
Ethnopharmacology. This conference will focus on the rejuvenation of traditional medicines and will
address several crucial and contemporary issues on globalization of natural products. This conference
will provide an ideal platform to the participants for presenting their research work, interaction,
debate and dissemination of ideas amongst the distinguished professionals, eminent scientists,
technologist and industrialist. We want to invite you all to join this conference and fulfill the mission
of Society for Ethnopharmacology (SFE-India) on “Globalizing Local Knowledge and Localizing
Global Technologies” through dissemination of knowledge for promotion of Ethnopharmacology,
medicinal plants and natural products.

About the conference
Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being of an individual. Diseases are one
of the major threats to human health. Therapeutic intervention is essentially required when the
preventive approach for maintenance of health are not enough to achieve the desired goals.
Discovery and development of new therapeutic agents has been a continuing process. In-spite

The
Society is registered under the West Bengal Society Registration act 1961. The
main motto of the society is promotion and development of traditional
medicine and medicinal plants through dissemination of knowledge and research collaboration and
cooperation – “Globalizing local knowledge and localizing global technologies”. The society
organizes conferences, seminars, symposiums, workshops etc in different parts of India for
discussion and sharing knowledge on different issues on cultivation, product
production,
ion, quality evaluation,
safety, clinical studies, biological screening and several other issues of natural product research. The
Society helps to inculcate the modern global knowledge on herb, herbal remedies, herbal quality
assurance, herbal trade and commerce,

knowledge can be upgraded. It forms a bridge between the academic and industry to gather scientific
and teaching professional in Ethnopharmacology and also professional of other area interested

Bundelkhand University
Situated in the lap of Kamason Hills of Jhansi, Bundelkhand University is an eminent institute of
higher learning imparting quality education in conventional basic sciences and emerging but
interdisciplinary applied subjects. Due to its academic & administrative infrastructure and standards
it has been accredited with NAAC and ranked as number 1 university for consecutively for 03 years,
amongst the state govt. universities of Uttar Pradesh. The Bundelkhand University came into
existence on August 26, 1975, vide Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 10/15-60/74 under

Institute of Biomedical Sciences (Change Photo)
Institute Biomedical Sciences was incepted at Bundelkhand University in 2002 with aim to gain
insight in the life process and creative innovations for drug formulations and re-engineering the
medicine pathways. The department is steadily surging ahead to become source of major scientific
hub for understanding biological phenomenon for prevention of diseases. The Institute is second
after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centre for Biomedical Research, University of Delhi, to start post graduate
and research degree program in Biomedical Sciences in the country. The institute is offering Ph.D,
M.Sc. and B.Sc. degree program in Biomedical Sciences. The Institute has produced University
toppers in M.Sc. and B.Sc. examinations consecutively in the year 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012. More than
50 students have been qualified CSIR/ICMR NET/GATE examination. In short span of its existence,
the institute has established quality infrastructure for research & development. The Institute is having
sprawling lawns, six well equippted laboratories, four state of the art class rooms, library, computer
center and other facilities required for teaching & research. Faculty members are engaged in research
in the area of Antimicrobial, Antidiabetic and Immunomodulatory activity of herbal formulation,
cytotoxic analysis of pastecide and antioxidant study of various herbal and synthetic molecules. They
have got research projects from CSIR, DST, UGC and other funding agencies. Institute earned
National and International fame by organizing three National and two International Conferences on

Registration is required for attending /presenting a paper during the conference. The participants are
requested to register online by visiting the conference website by clicking registration.
The
participants may also register by sending the electronic copy of the registration form available at
conference website.
Papers are invited preferably on the thrust area of the conference. However, abstracts in related area
may also be considered by the screening committee. The abstract (approx of 500 words including
figure) typed in 12 font size in Times New Roman with 1.5 line space may be submitted as an
attachment at the time of online registration or offline via email at sfejhansi2014@gmail.com, by
October 30, 2014. For offline registration, the participant may download the word format of the
registration form, fill it in word formats and send via email along with requisite attachments. For
offline registration, the form should be filled and submitted in word format only.

Jhansi is a historical place of India,, known by the name of the ‘Fiery Queen, Maharani Lakshmi Bai ‘
‘The
he Jhansi ki Rani’ who played a pivotal role in ‘The First War of Independence in 1857’. It is known
as the Gateway to Bundelkhand. The city is having a number of majestic historical sites, religious
centres, monuments, water bodies and sanctuaries

Jhansi are: Jhansi Fort, Rani Mahal, Laxmi Tal, Laxmi Mandir, Rani Laxmi Bai Museum

Church. Other nearby places of tourist attraction are Datia, Sonagir, Orcha,, Shivpuri, Khajuraho,
Gwalior and Agra.
Orchha
Orchha was founded in the 16th century on banks of river Betwa. On one side of the river is the
Orccha city and the other side is the Teekam Garrh Forest range. The city is famous for the temple of
‘Raja Ram’. The city of Orchha consists of severa
severall buildings mostly constructed at the time of Bir
Singh Ju Deo( 1605-1627) who built the exquisite Jahangir Mahal\Hardaul Mandir and Chatturbhuj
Temple. This beautiful place is just 18 km away from Jhansi.
Datia
Datia is the ancient town which is situated at a distance of about 20 km. from Jhansi. It has been
mentioned in Mahabharat as ‘Daityavakra’. Datia is famous as a pilgrimage spot for devotees of
Siddhapeeth ‘Shri Peetambra Devi’. The other historic monument at Datia is the seven storied palace
of Raja Bir Singh Judeo built on the top of hill with splendid view all around.
Sonagiri
Sonagiri 10 kms form Datia and 30 Kms from Jhansi. It is known as place of jain temples. There are
around 77 jain temples builtt along the hill and its slopes in 17th century.
Shivpuri; The Tiger Land
Shivpuri is widely known for its Madhav National park which covers an area of 156 sq. km. and has a
varied terrain of wooded hills which offers an abundant opportunity for sighting a variety of wildlife.
The predominant species in the park is the deer, of which offers an abundant opportunity of sighting

are the graceful Chinkaras
hinkaras and the Chitals, other important species being, Nilgai, Sambar, Chausigha,
Blackbuck, Sloth Bear, Leopard and Langur. At one time Shivpuri was the summer capital of the

Chirakoot
Chitrakoot is the celebrated pilgrimage town which is located on the northern spur of the Vindhyas.
It has various mythological tales attached to it. It was the abode of lord Rama and Sita for eleven
years when in exile. This holy city, the abode of the gods, is set in sylvan surroundings on the
beautiful River Mandakini. It is dotted with innumerable temples and shrines today. The places of
Tourist interest are Gupt Godavari, Sati Anusuya, Sphatik Shila, Janki Kund, Hanuman Dhara,
Kamadgiri, Ram Ghat. Chitrakoot is around 200 Kms from Jhansi.
Khajuraho
Khajuraho or ancient "khajurvahaka" derives its name from the khajur tree (the date palm tree),
which abounds in plenty in this region. This quiet sylvan retreat seems to have been an ideal
religious sanctuary nestling in the lap of the Vindhya Mountains. The place, if pictures speak, is a
thousand words, a magnum opus, an expression of Indian sculptures of yore. The founder of the
Chandela dynasty Nannuka or Chandravarman constructed 85 temples dedicated to various gods on
massive altars. These form the pride of Khajuraho even ten centuries later, making it a picturesque
sight of architectural miracles and one wonders as to how the mortal minds and hands could have
conceived and executed these fantasies on stone. The murals and motifs depict scenes from hunting,
feasting, dancing and stress on the sensual and the erotic. Khajuraho is around 170 kms form Jhansi.
Gwalior
Situated in the state of Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior is the city of true royals, the Scindhias. City is well
known for its majestic fort, considered as one of the best in the world. Gwalior is located at a distance
of only 100 km from Jhansi and well connected by road and rail.
The nucleus of Gwalior is a citadel crowning an isolated rock about 91 m (300 ft) high, 3.2 km (2 mi)
long, and 823 m (2700 ft) wide. The rock is said to have been a strong hold for more than Ten
Centuries and Old city is located in the Eastern base of the rock. The old city is covered with white
sandstone Mosque, Palaces, rock temples and statues of archaeological and architectural interest. The
Jiwaji University was built in Gwalior in the year 1964. Gwalior City was the Capital of the princely
State of Gwalior until 1948 and the summer Capital of Madhya Bharat State from 1948 to 1956. With
different Dynasty, the city gained a new dimension from the warrior kings, poets, musicians, and
saints who contributed to making it renowned throughout the country. The city is also the setting for
the memorials of freedom fighters such as Tatya Tope and the indomitable Rani of Jhansi.
The Taj Mahal, Agra

warned. Nothing can prepare you for your first sighting of the building. The Taj Mahal, the one and
only one of its kind across the world. The monumental labour of love of a great ruler for his beloved
queen. The ultimate realization of Emperor Shahjahan's dream. One of the wonders of the world.
From 1631 A.D., it took 22 years in the making. An estimated 20,000 people worked to complete the
enchanting mausoleum, on the banks of the Yamuna. For a breathtaking beautiful view of the Taj
Mahal, see it by moonlight.
How to Reach
Jhansi is located in central part of India and very well connected to major via rail and road network.
The nearest airport is Gwalior (100km) and Khajuraho (170km). The rail connectivity of Jhansi is
excellent with very frequent trains to North, South, East and West. To avoid last minutes rush, the
participants are requested to register early and plan travel in advance.
