Oktoberfest Ladysmith
The board of directors wish to express our sincere appreciation to all of the volunteers,
sponsors and property owners who contributed to the success of the 29th annual Oktoberfest Ladysmith.
The time and effort put forth by our volunteers in preparing the buildings, food, events
like horseshoes, fireworks and parade, are truly appreciated. We also want to thank those
who contribute time taking pictures and hosting our social media (Facebook & Twitter,
website).
Thank you all for your efforts, whether it was in preparation, clean up or giving freely
of your time during the weekend. We truly could not do it without you. We are lucky to
have dedicated people willing to return each year, as well as, those who responded to the
need and joined for the first time this year.
We invite all of you to join us next year in celebrating our 30th anniversary.

Sue, a nurse, was unhappy with her job,
so she submitted her resignation. She was
sure she'd have no trouble finding a new
job because of the nursing shortage in her
area. She e-mailed cover letters to dozens of
potential employers, attaching her resume
to each one. Two weeks later, Sue was
dismayed and bewildered that she had not
received even one request for an interview.
Finally she received a message from a
prospective employer that explained the
reason she hadn't heard from anyone else. It
read: “Your resume was not attached as
stated. I do, however, want to thank you for
the vegetable lasagna recipe.”

THE W ISE OLD OWL
A wise old owl sat in an oak,
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard;
Why can’t we all be like
That wise old bird?
Due to a council decision, the Thorne Council
Minutes will no longer be published
in the monthly Thorne Notice Board.

Frequent hand washing in my job as a
medical technologist and the harsh weather
combined give me very dry skin.
One night as I prepared for bed, I
rubbed my hands with petroleum jelly and
covered them with an old pair of white
gloves. As I sat in bed reading a book with
my gloves on, my husband finished showering and came into the room wearing a
towel.
After drying himself off, he went to the
closet, selected a tie and put it on. "What
are you doing?" I asked.
"Well" he replied, "if you are going to be
formal. So am I."
