Open Trenching We will be replacing the wastewater main along the road. The work involves digging trenches to remove damaged pipes and replacing them with new pipes. This is called open trenching. We will work in sections as we move along the street. When work is complete on a section of the road, the trench will be backfilled, the site fencing will move and trenches will be dug on the next section of road. Reinstatement Once the new pipe is laid the trench line will be backfilled and compacted. The trench line will be sealed by a separate roading crew. This crew will seal the road once large sections of work are finished. The seal requires warmer temperatures to set correctly and minimal moisture in the layers below the ground.
