AstraZeneca Gulf launches LeadAir in Kuwait
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 2: AstraZeneca
Gulf announced the launch of its new
and innovative respiratory initiative,
LeadAir at a press conference held in
Radisson Blu Kuwait. LeadAir comprises of many physician and patient centric
initiatives including medical workshops
with the Royal College UK, the National
Respiratory Day and the upcoming Aconnect program which provides a
smartphone application (AsthmaMD),
patient education and peak flow meters
to Asthma patients.
The meeting was led by Professor
Adnan Abul, Head of Kuwait Thoracic
Society and Dr Sana Al Mutairi, Consultant
Pulmonologist and Head of Pulmonology
Department at Al Amiri Hospital who
focused on the importance of developing
new and innovative ways to better serve
patients. AstraZeneca was represented by
Moustafa Abdelhady, Country Manager
(Kuwait). The meeting covered current
efforts focused on improving Asthma and
COPD control at large.
Asthma
Asthma affects approximately 300
million people globally of which only
40%-50% are compliant to their medication. The chronic nature of the disease
and gaps in compliance and diagnosis
result in extensive socioeconomic loss.
According to the Cost of Asthma in
Kuwait study, the prevalence of asthma
in Kuwait was estimated to be 15% of
adults and 18% of children. Asthma, also
causes tangible changes to lifestyle and
productivity.

National Respiratory Day was held on Oct
25, 2014. Professor Adnan Abul and Dr
Sana Al Mutairi were chairpersons at this
event with the goal of bringing the global
experience to the local practice. There were
two international speakers, Professor Peter
Calverley from the UK and Professor
Qutaiba Hamid from Canada. Professor
Calverly is a Professor of Respiratory
Medicine at the University of Liverpool.
He provided a review of COPD updates
and gave another lecture titled “The Future
of Asthma Medications”. Professor Qutaiba
is a Professor of Medicine at McGill
University and the Director of the Montreal
Chest Institute. He spoke about the management of severe asthma and special
cases.
A large number of asthma patients begin
their treatment journey in the primary
healthcare centers. The medical workshops
bring continuous medical education from
the Royal College UK to GPs enabling
them to better diagnose and treat these
patients. This program will be locally and
internationally accredited and will begin in
November 2014.

Moustafa Abdelhady said: “LeadAir is
an initiative being developed by the respiratory unit of AstraZeneca Gulf to improve
the management of Asthma and COPD in
the region. We will do this by providing
scientific, clinical and lifestyle solutions to
patients and their HCPs. Our objective is to
drive regional leadership in Asthma &
COPD management now and in future
through long term partnerships with local
authorities and society at large.”

House (KFH) launched a new debit card

client’s language; automatic warranty
extension (up to 24 months) for purchased
products, plus coverage for damage up to
$5,000 per item.
Welch went on to say that the card is
offered free to clients who meet KFH’s criteria for ‘Priority’ private banking and is
initially valid for five years, with automatic renewal thereafter.
Welch concluded by saying that KFH will
continue in its mission to bring world-class
banking and investment services to its clients,
thereby also attracting new clients through
continuous innovation.

Manager for Middle East and North Africa,

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 2: Zain Group,
the leading telecom innovator across
the Middle East and Africa announces
the appointment of Mrs Eaman Al
Roudhan as Chief Regulatory Officer
of Zain Group effective Nov 1, 2014.
This follows the departure of Saud Al
Zaid who was appointed a board member of the newly formed Kuwait
Telecom Regulatory Authority.
A result focused telecommunications executive, she brings to the role
20 years of experience of which 17
years in telecom executive management and leadership of different business units within Zain Kuwait as well
as several Zain Group affiliates.
She began her telecom experience
having joined Zain Kuwait in 1998, and
together with a small team launched the
first mobile prepaid service in Kuwait,
which went on to dominate the country’s
prepaid mobile customer base. As Zain
expanded across the region, Al
Roudhan’s responsibilities also grew
from 2003 onwards as she was an activeparticipant in the start-up teams in several Zain operations across the Middle
East, namely Bahrain, Iraq, Lebanon,
and Saudi Arabia.
In parallel Al Roudhan continued to
play a key role in the transformation of
Zain Group, building operational
teams and establishing solid foundations for business units across all
major telecommunications sectors
including Intelligent Networks, product & service development, strategy
and business planning, roaming,
wholesale and carrier relations, as well
as regulatory affairs. Throughout this
period she orchestrated numerous
strategic alliances with international
and regional operators.
Commenting on the appointment,

has attended programs at Tokyo Institute
of Technology (TIT), and executive programs at Harvard Business School.

of the Gulf Road was dressed in blue
early Saturday morning, as over 8000
thousand people joined the fifth annual
“Beat Diabetes Walkathon”, organized
by the retail and hospitality conglomerate, Landmark Group. The event, which
was held under the patronage of the
Ministry of Health and Dasman Diabetes
Institute, marked a very successful completion for the fifth year in a row.
The Beat Diabetes walkathon marks
the culmination of a year-long timeline
of diabetes awareness drives and activities led by the Landmark Group. Saibal
Basu, Chief Operating Officer,
Landmark Group Kuwait joined the supporters in the 3.1 kms walk, reiterating
the organisation’s support to the cause.
