L O V E Regnum Christi Mission Corps Information Packet 2015-‐2016 d B U I L D 1. What is Regnum Christi? Regnum Christi is an apostolic movement at the service of mankind and the Church. It shares the charism of the priestly congregation, the Legionaries of Christ. Regnum Christi is a movement for evangelization. In it each member has decided to take seriously and responsibly the great missionary commandment that Christ gave to all those who call ourselves his followers. The Legionaries of Christ and Regnum Christi members want to preach the Gospel fearlessly throughout the world, supported by the omnipotence of God and by the word of Christ who said: “I will be with you until the end of the world.” For more information visit www.regnumchristi.org. 2. What is the Regnum Christi Mission Corps? It is a program through which a person volunteers for one or two years to work full time, exclusively for the Church. The Mission Corps is a vital support for Regnum Christi’s work to help build up the Church. Serving for this time period is a concrete way to live and spread your love for Jesus Christ. It is an opportunity to serve people through active apostolate, and to help other young people find the meaning of their lives in Christ. Missionaries help build up the Church and fulfill the Great Commission Christ gave his followers before he ascended to the Father: "Go into the entire world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation” (Mt 28:19). For more information visit www.rcmissioncorps.org. 3. What formation will I receive as part of the Mission Corps? There are two distinct stages to the training: the summer course and the ongoing formation received during your year. The formation will address the spiritual, human, intellectual, and apostolic dimensions of your life and thus provide a substantial foundation for your future. You have many chances to broaden your horizons by getting to know other places, environments, and cultures, and you will learn to live as a family with other missionaries who are motivated by the same ideals. Spiritual Dimension Human Dimension As a missionary you will also need to form yourself in human virtues so as to achieve your complete human development. Supernatural grace needs a solid human foundation in order to give rise to the lay apostle that the world needs today. During your year, you will work on a personal program of human formation to build a rich and balanced personality and develop qualities such as: a deep self-‐knowledge, a mature and upright conscience, a sense of responsibility, trustworthiness, mastery of your emotions and feelings, will-‐power and self-‐control. These qualities will set you on a firm foundation for any apostolate as well as for your future career and family life. During your year as a missionary, you are given an amazing opportunity to grow in your relationship with God through prayer and the sacraments. Your spiritual life is to be focused on a deep and personal experience of God, growing in personal knowledge of Him and the desire to bring Him to others. Making the words of St. Paul you own: "Woe to me if I do not proclaim the gospel" (1 Cor. 9:16). Intellectual Dimension During the summer course, you will prepare yourself for the year with a series of lectures and workshops. In these, you will learn how to give reasons for your faith, as St. Peter tells us: "Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence" (1 Pet 3, 15-‐16). If we really want to evangelize today’s world we need to give both the witness and the reasons for our faith in Jesus and His Church. Therefore, during the summer course you will have classes and workshops on: • Morality/Ethics • Catechesis and apologetics • Structure and organization of Regnum Christi and its apostolates • Human formation/Etiquette • Anthropology • Team work/Communication/Conflict Management • Youth Ministry Apostolic Dimension Christ needs your hands, your feet and your voice to bring him and his word where he is not yet known, or where his memory has been erased. Christ’s love will impel you! This apostolic impulse will derive from having experienced the love of God in your own life. 4. A typical day in the RC Mission Corps As a full time apostle for Christ, you will have your regular prayer and work schedule. The specifics vary depending on your location and what work you will be doing. A regular day consists of: • 25 minutes for Morning Prayers • Mass • Apostolic Work • Free Time • Spiritual Reading • Rosary • Adoration with Night Prayers Apostolic Work What work you will be taking part in will depend on the city you are sent to. We look to match your skill set with the places and needs that will help you make the biggest impact. Therefore, a variety of possibilities are open including helping with youth clubs, organizing mission trips, and teaching the faith. Events might take place at the local parish, at a school, or someone’s home. Your role as a missionary is to bring others to Christ. This is done through work and example. The latter is the more important of the two. Remember that you can’t give what you don’t have. 5.
