A committee is presently getting things ready to
open a “Time for Me Room”
This room will be a quiet place to come and enjoy
the many books that have been donated by people in
Denare Beach, Creighton and Flin Flon. It will be a
quiet place for kids and their families to read in a
comfortable setting. We all know that “Readers make
Leaders” so this will be a way to encourage children to
read everyday
Parents will be welcome to bring their children
and borrow books from this room. Books will be
borrowed on the honour system and should be returned when you are done for someone else to enjoy.
We welcome donations of books for kids of all
ages but predominately geared for ages 6 – 12. We are
also looking for educational board games and puzzles.
If you are would like to be a guest reader and
possibly do a corresponding activity or craft please
phone the Recreation Office at 306-362-2050. This is a
great way to give back to your community and encourage the gift of reading to a child!

BIRD ‘BUZ’
WHAT A FUNNY YEAR!
Two months ago it did not look like we were
going to have the wonderful October we have
enjoyed. The migratory birds seemed to pass
through very early. There were snow buntings in
the middle of September. Everything saying early
winter. But wrong. The waterfowl may have left
early but there have been plenty of birds enjoying the fruits on various trees and the snow
buntings are still around. Two of the interesting
birds we get at this time of year are Cedar and
Bohemian waxwings. The Cedar waxwing is slightly smaller and much more common. Our area is
at the eastern edge of the Bohemian waxwings
range. Both species form flocks, sometimes
together, and love mountain ash berries. Both
species have small red, waxy knobs on their
wings. The reason for this is unknown. Both species have a yellow band on their tails. Sometimes
this is orange and it appears to be diet related!

It’s Flu Season
Did you know kids under 5 are at higher risk of serious complications
(like pneumonia) from the flu? To prevent getting or spreading the flu:
1. Each year get a flu vaccine for everyone over 6 months of age
2. Teach your kids to clean their hands frequently and thoroughly;
cough and sneeze into their arm, not their hand and keep their hands
away from their face
3. Keep common surface areas clean and disinfected
4. If you or your child get sick, stay home
* Taken from Public Health Agency of Canada & Immunize Canada

Recreation and Parks build strong families and healthy
communities:

Recreation contributes to the development of future capacity. Childhood
recreation activity is associated with adult volunteering and community
work.

Recreation programs promote leadership, character, health, and career
development of youth while emphasizing social, cultural and
educational growth.

Recreation provides safe, developmental opportunities during the critical
after-school hours.

Parks and green space encourage socialization, thereby strengthening
community relationships. The sense of belonging resulting from this
inter-action may help dissipate the feeling of isolation often experienced
by marginalized groups and older adults.
