It bothers me to hear someone say, “my one vote doesn’t really matter.” Our vote is our voice and it’s a very powerful one, especially in local elections. State and local government have a greater influence on our everyday lives than the President, or Congress, or most other government positions. The few minutes you spend in a voting booth help to shape your future as well as that of so many others. Here’s some voting history from our town and state: ♦ Less than 10 votes determined control of the Town Council in 2007. ♦ Kevin Rennie was elected State Senator for our area in 1994 by 76 votes, which switched control of the State Senate that year from Democratic to Republican. ♦ One vote ─ just one ─ made the difference for Anne Ruwet, of Torrington, in her 2002 race for state representative. Elections in South Windsor are always very close and there are no official polls for local elections, so you have no idea whether your vote might be the one to decide an election. Every vote really counts, and that includes yours. If you have questions, such as where to vote or if you need physical assistance to vote, contact the SW Town Hall, Town Clerk’s office (860-285-1902). If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at home 860-528‑3564, email (bill.aman@housegop.ct.gov), or speak up if you see me around town. November CARES programming is all about "Thankfulness" (naturally). Discussions on the importance or remembering our "heroes" in the military throughout our history and presently, will be the focus the first part of the month. A gathering of friends from Windsor's Caring Connection will be held here on November 4th, with a program of sharing games. We have also been invited to share in some wonderful entertainment at their facility later in the month. A new Pet Therapy program will take place this month, led by a family member of one of our group clients. Scott Lesinski and his licensed therapy dog "Blue" will visit CARES on November 13th.
