WHAT’S AT STAKE: Three big things in this week’s matchup ...
* Empire 8 Title : The winner of Saturday’s game will earn the
Empire 8’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament. If Ithaca
wins, it would clinch at least a sharer of the league’s best overall
record and hold the tiebreaker by winning the head-to-head
matchup with St. John Fisher. If St. John Fisher wins, it clinches the
best overall record in the league.
* Air vs. Ground: Ithaca and Fisher stand first and second among
Empire 8 teams in rushing defense and scoring defense, and first in
the offensive category of passing efficiency. The team that can rush
most effectively to balance the passing attack will have an upper
hand in this game.
* Closely Matched: The last three games between Ithaca and St.
John Fisher have been decided by a total of 10 points. Fisher won
13-10 in overtime in 2011 and 21-17 in 2012. Last year, Ithaca won
25-22. The all-time series between the teams is tied 8-8.
