2014 PRESIDENTS REPORT
Welcome, one and all, to the 2014 Millicent A.H. & P. Show
This year is the 138th Annual Show and my ninth year in the president’s seat.
2013 was a difficult year, but we are still here. We have had some big repair bills, and unfortunately some
are ongoing. Vera’s Kitchen and School Hall building are moving slowly behind the scenes. It costs an
enormous amount of money for the repairs that it needs, and won’t be available again this year, However
we are positively working towards getting the fiancés together, to repair “the grand old lady”. Now on to
the show….
I always wonder about the weather, when I think of the show. We certainly have had some trying and
difficult weather conditions. Let’s hope that 2014 is kind to us, and we are hopeful it will bring us a
beautiful warm and sunny day, to enjoy a spectacular event.
It takes a lot of effort from many volunteers to run an event of this magnitude. I would like to personally
thank the members of the Millicent Show Society Committee, who have spent countless hours putting
the show together. The members of the Millicent Show Society have taken on the task of putting on the
show with great pride, energy and stamina. A fact we should all be proud of. Please support all the local
businesses listed throughout this program because it is their generous support that makes the annual
Show possible. The show has many local volunteers and volunteer groups assisting with its running,
including the Millicent Hospital Axillary, Millicent CFS, also Rotary, Lions, and Lioness’s we thank them.
This year, the show has many attractions, on Friday night an extensive display of Motorcross action,
Fireworks topped off with the band Sweet September. Saturdays entertainment, including performances
by Circus Elements, a display of stationary steam engines and tractors, Sideshows, art displays by
Murals for Millicent, Demolition derby, and much more. Other attractions included at the Millicent Show
will include, Snake Handling Demonstrations, Poultry & Pigeon competition, Horses in Action, Cattle &
Sheep and shearing too, as well as Yard Dogs.
To the dedicated committee and their families I wish you a successful weekend and say thank you. To the
spectators enjoy the 138th Annual Millicent Show.

All other prize money and all trophies can be collected from the Show Office between 10am – 11:30am
Tuesday, November 11th, 2014
NOTE: Monies not collected on this day will be forfeited unless prior arrangements are made with the
Secretary!
GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS
1. Members must show tickets at the gate.
2. Persons, who are Indoor Exhibitors at the Annual Show and are not members, will be required to pay
entry at the gate.
3. Every exhibit of plants or vegetables must have been the property of the exhibitor for not less than
one month.
4. If a judge feels an entry is not worthy of a 1st place it may be withheld. Judges must be
available to speak to exhibitors up to 2 hours after judging.
5. There must be three entries in each class or no second prize will be awarded, unless recommended
by Judges.
6. The decision of the Judges shall be final, except where the regulations have been infringed.
7. The judge’s decision is final, and if an exhibitor is not happy, please lodge a protest in writing with the
Secretary no later than 4pm on the day, which the award is made. A deposit of 50% of the value of
the prize must accompany each protest, which may be forfeited if the protest be deemed frivolous.
8. The committee reserves the right to make any alteration in the published program.
9. Exhibits for competition or exhibition must be in their places in the Show Pavilion not later than
6.00pm Thursday night before show.
10.Any persons or exhibitors interfering with the judges or stewards will be disqualified and prizes
forfeited.
11.All indoor exhibits must be the property of the exhibitor.
12.If deemed necessary by the committee, any exhibitor or prize winner may be called upon to make
a statutory declaration as to the bona fides of any exhibit for competition and non-compliance may
render the prize liable to forfeiture.
13.The Show pavilion will be open after judging on Friday.
14.No cattle & sheep to leave the Showground’s before 4pm Saturday without the permission of the
secretary or the stewards.
15.No tents, booths, or hawkers will be allowed on the showground’s without the permission of the
committee.
16.Entries must be made on the official entry form, copies of which are enclosed with the prize list and
are obtainable from the secretary.
17.Every facility is given to the exhibitors, but the committee will not undertake any responsibility for any
exhibit.
18.This Society is affiliated with the SE of SA and Border Show Societies Association and any exhibitor
or exhibit subject to disqualification by that Association or by any Show Society affiliated with that
Association will be debarred from competition at the Show of this Society during the period of such
disqualification or until any appeal that may have been lodged against such disqualification shall
have been determined. Notification of any disqualification will be forwarded to the South East and
Border Show Societies Association, or appropriate bodies, by this Society.

YOUNG RURAL AMBASSADOR
This is open to young people (20-30 yrs inclusive) in the community who are interested in rural issues.
This is a National award. Winners compete at District & State competitions where prizes include PIRSA
funded study tours. Contact the show secretary for an application form. Sponsored by Carapace,
Beachport. 1st $50, 2nd $30, 3rd $10. If all prize money is not allocated in this section it will be given
to the following classes.
Youth Rural Ambassador
Open to young people 16-19yrs (on day of show). Like the YRA, this award leads onto district & state
finals. Prizes include scholarships. Contact the show secretary for an application form.

Millicent stadium cross has been running for several years 16+ they currently have 8 junior
classes and 3 senior classes and the Dale Teagle Memorial. The track consists of man made
jumps, drop-offs, banked curves, straights and table tops. Practice starts at 3.00pm and racing
starts straight after practice. Dale Teagle Memorial race is 15 laps for the top 25 senior riders.
We have riders from NSW, Victoria and South Australia.

CATTLE SCANNING: All cattle must be yarded, ready for scanning at 9am Saturday, as per
PIRSA requirements. Any cattle not scanned, will not be entered or judged.
Sectional Regulations G1 and G2
1. Accredited MN1 plus area available for stud cattle.
2. Tuberculosis & Brucellosis free. Cattle originating from confirmed free (CF); tested negative (TN),
or monitored negatives (MN) herds from a provisionally free or eradication - No testing required.
3. Cattle originating from control areas or from non assessed (NA) herds in provisionally free areas –
Prior permission from the Chief Inspector of Stock.
4. Johne’s Disease & Enzootic Bovine Leucosis (EBL) Disease
(a) South Australian Exhibits - A declaration that both diseases are not known to exist on property
within the previous 5 years.
5. Interstate cattle on South Australian properties for less than 1 year.
6. The normal Form 1A Health Certificate fully endorsed must accompany cattle from interstate.
7. RFID Numbers are a requirement this year and cattle will be scanned show morning.
Commercial Cattle - G1 Rules & Regulations
(a) Ownership: All entries to be the property of the exhibitor for at least 3 months prior to the
competition.
(b) Live Judging: Entries will be judged for maturity, quality, conformation and degree of finish.
Judging will be on the hoof only.
Entry Fee: $2.50. Prize Money: 1st $30, 2nd $20, 3rd $10.
Entries: Maximum of two (2) entries per person per class. Calves to be born 2014.

Beef Cattle - G2 All Breeds Classic - Rules & regulations
1. All cattle must have been taught to lead & will be tied where directed by stewards.
2. All exhibits will be paraded for judging on day of Show as directed by stewards.
3. Age of beef cattle to date from day of show.
4. All entries must be the property of the exhibitor.
5. All animals must be registered with their respective breed societies.
6. Bulls must have neck collars while tied up.
7. Calves at foot CAN be entered in Under 16 month classes.

All sheep must be penned by 8.30am and ready for judging by 9.00am sharp, SATURDAY.
Month when sheep were last shorn must be given to the Secretary at time of entry.
All sheep are to be shown in the wool, except as otherwise stated.
No entry can compete in more than one class, except where stated. Lamb (with ewe) may be
entered in lamb class.

Breeders Group Classes - 1 ram less than 1.5yrs & 2 ewes less than 1.5yrs. Bred by exhibitor.

All stud sheep must meet all their own Breed’s Society Regulations eg. tattoos, ear marks etc.
There shall not be any more than two (2) entries per class, per exhibitor.

The judge has the right to reclassify sheep from the under 1.5yr class to over 1.5yr class where
more than two teeth are showing.
Shorn long wools to have not more than 38mm wool, shorn short wools not more than 25mm
wool.
In the case of a discrepancy, the R.A.H.S. of SA rules will be used.
All sheep must be from registered and accredited Ovine Brucellosis Free flocks. Certificate No. to
accompany entries.
OVINE JOHNE’S DISEASE: (1) Exhibitors must be in the MAP program and supply their
registered number OR the property has a 350 PFC test or equivalent. (2) Tested negative within the
last 2 years. These are the requirements as specified by the SA Country Shows and adopted
by the SE Border Show Assoc.

A FEW HINTS FOR COOKING.
1. Read all instructions carefully
2. Display is important. Use medium size paper plates where there are several articles in a class
3. For larger cakes – cardboard cut slightly larger than the cake and covered with foil is quite satisfactory
4. Where there are several items in a class, look for uniformity both as to size and degree of cooking
5. A slice should be a slice (not a square) approx 2 – 2.5 x 7 – 6.5cm is a good size
6. In classes such as slices and sweets each pair should be identical
7. Avoid cake rack markings. Only use paper on base for fruit cakes, lighter cakes use melted butter and flour methods.

No Entry Fee RICH FRUIT CAKE
Recipe to be used, cake not to be iced Angas Park product to be used where possible.
INGREDIENTS: 250gm butter, 250gm dark brown sugar, 6 eggs, 250gm sultanas,
250gm raisins, 200gm currants, 100gm dates, 60gm chopped red glace cherries,
60gm mixed peel, 60gm chopped almonds, 375gm plain flour, 1teaspoon baking powder,
1 teaspoon mixed spice, 200ml sherry or brandy
METHOD: Mix together all fruits and soak in the sherry or brandy overnight. Sift together flour, baking
powder and spice. Cream together butter and sugar, add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each
addition. Then alternatively add the fruit and flour and lastly the chopped nuts. Mix thoroughly. Place
mixture into a prepared square tin (approx 19 – 22cm in size). Bake in slow oven approx 3 – 3½ hours.
Winner eligible to compete in State Final to be held at the next Royal Adelaide Show.

This show is a qualifier towards Junior Association Trophy most points in Showjumping under
18 yrs – Rider - minimum 2 shows
Things to know before you compete
TICKETING:
• Entry for show horse classes $4/class or a day ticket for $15/horse
• You will receive a number for each horse which must be displayed on the horse while competing.
N/A for showjumping
• All competitors must be a member of the Millicent Show Society. It is recommended that you
purchase a membership prior to the show from the show office – 08 8733 3560
• Membership - Family $35 – 2 adults & 2 children under 17yrs, Single $15, Junior $10
• All competitors must fill out a disclaimer and entry form before competing in any class at the
Millicent show
• Committee reserve the right to cancel or alter classes
• Pony Club Classes - horses & riders must be financial members & qualified
• Pony Club cards must be produced on request by event officials
• Pony Club classes with no age limit stated are open to any rider
FIREWORKS
• Horse competitors staying overnight are expected to be with their horses during the FIREWORKS

1. Challenge is open to all horses, all breeds
2. One horse – one rider. Rider can enter in only one class
3. Competitors may compete on more than one horse, however each additional horse will be charged
full entry fee
4. An open rider is a rider that has won or placed in an Open Challenge previously or has won an
Encouragement section of a Challenge previously
5. Encouragement refers to either rider or horse that hasn’t competed and won in an Open Challenge
previously – 17 yrs & over
6. Junior is a rider under 17 yrs who is able to ride unassisted. Any rider under the age of 18yrs
mayn’t show, ride or handle a Stallion or Colt
7. Stallions & Colts must be double tied when not ridden or in hand
8. Snaffle bit only in all classes
9. Expected dress code for entire program – neat tidy clothing, approved safety helmets & riding
