INTRODUCTION
IBI Group Calgary was established in 1977 and has developed a strong client base and an
outstanding reputation over the subsequent years. We also serve the wider IBI group and
have completed many projects for IBI offices in Canada and the US.
This is a showcase of our work over the past seven years. Many of
you have not worked with us before; we’ll introduce you to the team,
highlight some of the projects we’ve worked on and outline the
services we can offer your projects. Hopefully we’ll be working with
you very soon.
GOOGLE EARTH
The Graphics team has a licensed copy of Google Earth
Pro and can provide high resolution satellite and street view
images licensed for commercial use.
OTHER GRAPHIC SERVICES
We create 2D artwork and posters, such as the widely
circulated ‘Environmental Impacts on Learning’ infographic we
created for THiNK. The team also offers advice and expertise
on graphics software such as PowerPoint, InDesign and
Photoshop.
QR codes are scattered throughout this booklet. These link
to further, online content that we didn’t have space to include
here or that is difficult to show in print - such as animations.
We encourage you to explore this additional content and
recommend Red Laser for iOS or Android as the best app for
reading QR codes.

STILL IMAGES
Photorealistic still images are the bulk of our work for the practice
but this encompasses a wide spectrum of styles and content ranging from white card style concept models, through to full photo
montaged images (blending computer images with real world
photographs).
We’ve worked on every type of project from healthcare, education
and science, through to residential and large masterplanning
projects; from exteriors to interiors. Our images have been used
for everything from PowerPoint presentations, bid submissions,
development permits and even site hoardings.
VERIFIABLE VIEWS
Verifiable views are becoming a commonly used tool for planning
applications, especially those in sensitive areas. Creating a
verifiable view isn’t much different from our normal process except
that it requires extensive documentation and careful control of the
camera points. We have written a document explaining the process.
When commissioning such an image it is important to note that this
is a time consuming process, requiring external consultants, so if
a verifiable view is required it needs to be planned into the project
programme from the outset.

ANIMATION
Animations present many challenges not inherent when creating
still images; the team has the many additional skills required to
overcome those challenges.
A still image may take twenty minutes on average for the computer
to generate; twenty-five such stills are needed to get just one
second of animation - that’s 1,500 frames required for a full minute
of animation. Added to which, we need to manipulate each frame
before it is final - imagine using Photoshop to enhance and add to
a computer generated image (something we do regularly with still
images); imagine doing that on each frame of an animation and you
can appreciate the scale of task that we face when producing an
animation.
In Calgary we have an established pipeline/workflow especially
geared towards high end animation production; we have the tools,
both software and hardware, to tackle the most ambitious projects.
This system optomizes the use of technology allowing for maximum
productivity in animation production. Post processing is all handled
in house. We can produce all current file versions, for stand alone,
or web use.

SKETCHUP
As well as providing photorealistic output we are very often involved
at the early concept stages of a project when such images are
not appropriate or even possible as a design solution hasn’t been
reached.
SketchUp is a valuable tool for us in this respect, allowing us
to develop and amend a model rapidly as the design evolves.
Sometimes the SketchUp images themselves are sufficient, other
times we enhance these images in Photoshop and even by hand to
create something more artistic.
SketchUp is the tool we use to model most of our photo realistic
images and animations as it is a faster, more fluid modelling tool
than either 3D Studio Max or Revit.
