GIVING TREE—V de P SOCIETY
Our annual “Giving Tree’ will begin on Nov. 15th.
It’s your opportunity to spread god’s love and share
your blessings, with someone less-fortunate. Please
select a “gift suggestion card” (located in the church
vestibule), buy the gift indicated and bring your
NEW, UNWRAPPED present back to church with
the COLOR-CODED GUMMED LABEL from the
card stuck onto the gift or the shopping bag it is in.
(The color tells us what agency gets the gift). Place
it under the Giving Tree no later than Dec. 7th.
Please avoid buying “red” clothing as red is still associated with gangs. In January, we’ll be collecting
any of those HUGE plastic shopping bags that accumulate this time of year (to use for next year’s tree).
THANKS for all you do to help the poor & needy all
year long...................The St. Vincent de Paul Society

From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear Martins,
When we come together there is an enthusiasm and there is a palpable energy. Age and infirmity respectfully gives way to accomplishment and spontaneity. That is what is meant by Synergizing and Energizing, which led us to Evangelize through the play on the life of St. Martin. It was a heartfelt sharing
of our talent, time and so many who shared their own treasure. I still receive messages from outside the
parish, commenting on our together spirit and the ensuing energy: A sign of collaboration of young and
old—of all.
What underlies this is the sense of ownership and belonging you have for your parish. In the past two
years, I have experienced this many times. Take for instance, Virginia Bathe, who on noticing that the
special entrance on the left side was not friendly enough for senior citizens, not only suggested that we
put up hand rails, but also contributed towards half of the cost. Thanks Virginia. Or, when we were contemplating as how to match the lampstands for the pulpit with those at the altar—thanks to our wonderful and thinking sacristans--Charles Wiswall stepped up with speed, and with his metallurgical expertise
and magic restored our existing ones to shining sparkle as you see them next to the pulpit. Thanks Charlie! I can go on to write on many such experiences. Even during the play, a fine parishioner walks in
quietly to ask, “have you got the money yet for the new altar linen? (I didn’t even know the amount
needed !!!) I will make good if you run short of the cost.” What a sense of belonging you have towards
your parish.
No wonder you have journeyed for fifty years, no wonder we have the potential for the next 25 years to
come. On November 23 we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King, which closes both the liturgical year
and over a year of our fifty years jubilee celebrations. Hence November 29, the last week mass in the
week of November 23, will be the last day we say our parish prayer. With over a year of praying this
prayer, which many have even memorized, it is time for action to move forward for the Next 25 years to
come. Yes we are a Beyond 50: Vision 25 Parish!
In next week’s column I would lay out our five stage Vision 25 planning process, a part of which I had
mentioned three weeks ago. Let us pray to St. Martin, along with the intercession to Our Lady of Mercy,
to inspire us and to lead us forward.
Finally, as mentioned in the bulletin and spoken many times at the weekend masses, the Knobbe House
needs to be streamlined and cleaned up. All the organizations and ministries can store their equipment et
al., in the basement. The deadline is next weekend (November 23) after which all un-claimed, un-sorted
and disorganized “stuff” would be discarded. This parish is also our home and we need to keep it tidy
and clean, just as we do back home!
Peace and Grace, Fr. Rp

RESPECT LIFE
In today's Gospel, we hear the parable
of the talents. We learn what the Lord
thinks of servants who bury their talents out of a fear of losing them. Our
greatest talent and treasure is our ability to love, and in this enterprise the
champion is the greatest risk taker, which means the
one most willing to invest himself where the odds appear most against him. We can use our wide variety of
talents to defend and promote the sacredness of human
life. A wide variety of talents comprise the pro-life
movement. People provide alternatives to abortion,
legal advice, counseling, medical services, adoption
services, employment searches, housing, education,
and healing ministries to those who have had abortions. Oh Lord, help us use our many talents to proclaim the sanctity of life in all arenas of our lives.
Amen!!!Interested in using your talents to promote a
culture of Life? Contact the Respect Life Apostolate
of the Saint Louis Archdiocese at (314) 792-7555 or
Birthright at (314) 962-5300.
Please pray for the repose of the soul of
Lois Howlett
May God welcome her home, fill her
with His peace and bless all those who
mourn her loss.

ATTENTION:
EUCHARIST MINISTERS, GREETERS,
LECTORS, SERVERS, USHERS
It is imperative that all ministers send me their e-mail
address. Our Software Company, Rotunda Software,
will then automatically send them an e-mail notice the
week they are scheduled.
After a four-month schedule has been generated, the
data base for the Ministry Schedules is stored at Rotunda Software (the company that licenses the software that our monthly schedules are generated with).
It is Rotunda Software that sends out e-mail notices to
ministers if their e-mail address is in the data base.
These four-month schedules are sent to Sister Stephanie who in turn puts copies in the Vestibule at Church
for Ministers to pick up, and Sister uses these schedules to put weekly assignments in the bulletin. After
a four-month schedule has been generated, I cannot
change it without disrupting the data base and future
schedules. If a minister cannot adhere to the schedule
as generated and they are unable to get a sub, they
should let the head of that ministry know that. The
Ministry Head will let me know if future schedules
will be affected so I can change their preferences in
the data base. As far as changing the existing schedule, it is up to the Ministry Head whether they want to
try and get a substitute and whether they want to let
Sister Stephanie know that the Weekly Schedule in
the Bulletin should change.
The present Ministry Heads are as follows:
Eucharistic Ministers: Betty Wallisch, 837-0446
Greeters: Gerry Berviller, 606-5699
Lectors: Barb Krings, 731-1893
Servers: Gerry Berviller, 606-5699
Ushers: Rich Van Well, 895-3812

NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR MINISTRY
Our Mission: To reveal the loving, compassionate presence of God to one another in the ordinariness of our everyday lives through specific programs which:
1. Enable our senior parishioners to continue to live safe,
independent lives of high quality, in their own homes, for
as long as possible.
2. Enable any parishioner to maintain his/her accustomed
quality of life during periods of high stress, illness, family crisis, etc.

that fits your needs.

This program provides help with minor household
jobs such as: Changing air conditioner and furnace
filters; installing/changing batteries in smoke detectors; changing light bulbs; fixing leaking faucets;

the Gospel, and become refreshed, the volunteers
from St. Martin's will be your Martha and prepare a
warm meal to soothe you in body and spirit.
Coordinator: Barbara Krings
Phone: 314-731-1893
TRANSPORTATION:
This program offers rides to church, medical appointments, grocery shopping, as well as, pharmacy
pickups and filling small grocery orders.
THANK YOU FROM EARL ARSENEAU
I would like to thank my good friend, Larry Weber,
for his kind assistance in transporting and power
washing statues of Our Lady.
Without his generous help I would not have been able
to complete eleven statues.
My thanks also to the members of St. Martins for
trusting their statues to me, and giving me the opportunity to paint. It was a blessing.
Unfortunately with the onset of cold weather, as I
paint outside, I must stop until the coming of Spring.
With the Lord’s help and the blessing of Our Mother,
I will continue then. Thank you and God bless you.
