FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR...
Dear Friends,
There is so much going on at the Center in the next two months…our newsletter is, almost, too small
to fit it all in. Besides all of the terrific classes and presentations that are scheduled, a few of the
special events are: on November 5th the “Around the World” event at which dancers from the Rochez
Academy of Dance will entertain and Irish Stew will be served. On November 10th we’ll be honoring
Veterans with a special luncheon program. All Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary members are invited
to join us for a free lunch. As a special treat, the Buffalo Philharmonic Brass Quartet will perform
here on the afternoon of November 18th. We’ll be serving refreshments following the performance.
Reserve your spot for these events early by stopping in or calling the office.
Last month was our Nonagenarian Celebration. This was an event in which of our 1150+ members,
60 lunch invitations were sent to members that are ages 90 and over. Of the 60, 27 attended the event.
Together, with our regular lunch participants, there were over 75 people attending. In my just over
10 years experience working at the Center, this ranks up as one of the most delightful, enjoyable times
I have had here. It was wonderful to have all those amazing people, with such history and stories to
share. I loved it! I told this story to Susan Shisler, our former Office Manager, and discussed
collecting your stories and putting them together in a book. Knowing the wealth of experiences and
the interesting and exciting lives that so many of you have had, Susan would collect and create an
anthology of your stories. She will work with you to write your story, or you can write it yourself and
submit it to her. All submitted stories will be subject to editing, but you will have the final approval
before inclusion. An information sheet, which includes ideas for stories, is available in the office.
You can also contact Susan at susan.shisler@ymail.com for more information. Start writing! I can’t
wait to read about you.
Have a great month and a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Soldier Care Packages
The CSC is a drop off site for donations for our
military troops. Many thanks to the Clarence
American Legion Auxiliary 838 for assembling
the packages and getting them to the soldiers.
Monetary donations are also needed and appreciated.
As a 501 (c)(3) charitable not-for-profit
organization, Clarence Senior Citizens, Inc. is able to accept tax
deductible contributions. Honor a special person by
making a memorial donation. Your donation will help to make a
difference in the lives of seniors by supporting a wide range of
programs provided at the Clarence Senior Center.

CSC EMERGENCY CLOSING POLICY
The Center may close any day of the year due to any number of reasons. Weather and utilities
are the most common reasons. The Executive Director will make the decision based on input
from sources such as Erie County Nutrition, the New York State Police, the Clarence Highway
Department and others.
¨ If electricity or water are cut off, the Erie County Health Department requires the Center to
close.
¨ If the Erie County Nutrition Program is unable to deliver food, The Nutrition Program at the
center is cancelled.
¨ If the Town Highway Department or the New York State Police advise that the roads are in
poor condition or if especially bad weather is expected, the Center will be closed.
¨ Closing of the Center is not dependent on the closing of the Clarence Schools.
¨ When it has been determined that the Center will be closed, the following will happen:
A. CLOSE BEFORE OPENING:
If the Center will not open for the day:
a. A message will be entered on the Center's answering machine (633-5138) for members
and staff. The day and date will be included. Since the answering system is disabled if
the power is off, it will be necessary to follow TV or radio reports in that case.
b. *The Executive Director will call the following so information is available publicly:
WGRZ TV, Channel 2
WIVB TV, Channel 4
WBEN, Radio, 930
B. CLOSE DURING THE DAY:
If the Center should close during the day:
a. An announcement will be made in the Center and everyone will be expected to
evacuate the Center IMMEDIATELY. The bus will return riders home.
b. Announcements (A.a.) and (A.b.) above will be followed.
