Department Information: The Department of Geological Sciences is one of seven departments in the School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering. It currently offers a BS and BA in Geology and a thesis and non-thesis MS degree in Geology. The department is very active in peer-reviewed research and encourages work involving undergraduates. The department is equipped with aqueous chemistry and hydrology labs, an automated XRD, and ICP-MS, an SEM, a research petrography lab, and a sedigraph and field geophysics equipment. The California Well Sample Repository houses the largest public collection of oil and water well cores and cuttings in California. The Geotechnology Training Center includes surface and subsurface mapping software. General Information: California State University, Bakersfield, founded in 1970, is one of twenty-three campuses of the CSU System and currently has an enrollment of 8,500 students. We are a regional comprehensive university that prides itself in undergraduate education and small, high-quality programs. Though the particular expertise is open, applicants who specialize in Geophysics, Quaternary Geology, Petroleum Geology, Petrophysics, or Hydrogeology are preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to sharing in department responsibilities toward the education of our undergraduate and graduate majors as well as toward our service courses. Prior teaching and mentoring experience is essential. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong and consistent publication record and the potential for continued success. The successful candidate will also be expected to chair the department starting in the Fall of 2017 for at least one three-year term. Prior administrative and leadership experience would be beneficial.
