The meal consists of a corn pie, green beans and pepper cabbage, applesauce and a home made dessert along with a roll and beverage. All the pies are made from scratch and prepared that day. Meal tickets sell for $9.00, children 6-12 are $5.00 and children under 6 are free. Take outs will be available and corn pies only can be purchased for $6.00. Tickets can be purchased at the door on November 1st. St. Paul’s had their first corn pie supper in November 1991 and have continued it for 23 years. They still make the pies using homemade dough from our area, corn grown from our local farmers and other fresh ingredients to give these pies that great taste our community has continued to love. If you have never tried a corn pie you have to come out on November 1st and try one. They are the best around! If you would like more information about the upcoming supper you can contact the church office at 717-445-6256 or visit our web site at www.stpaulsuccchurch.org Thank you to everyone for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you all on November 1st. Mission Statement We, the congregation of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, who have accepted the gift of love and salvation through Jesus Christ, strive to take this message into the world through our prayers, words and deeds. We invite all people to accept these gifts with us. 1 Farwell and Blessings to You All Hello my friends at St. Paul's UCC. It has been awhile since I have been with you. I have missed you. And it is important to say good-bye, so I hope to see you at the Corn Pie Supper. If you cannot make the supper, and would like to see me, please contact me and I'll arrange a time to visit when I'm in the Lancaster area. I want to thank all of you for your prayers and for allowing me to lead worship and assist with pastoral visits. Your insights and kind words have helped me to become a better pastor. The joy you share for God, for each other, and for music is a great gift. I will miss each one of you. I have accepted and begun a call as the full time interim pastor for Trinity UCC, State Line. I am renting an apartment in Waynesboro and keeping my home in Leola. Nikki and Cayden will stay in Leola and take care of our home and pets. And I will travel back and forth, as able, to have dinner and play with them a little, as well as to pick up mail. It is a joy to have a full time call again and to use my gifts for ministry. Please feel free to pray for me to be the spiritual leader God desires; and pray for Trinity UCC as they adjust to the changes that come in times of transition. New beginnings are hard at times. Changes always make us feel uncomfortable. We often like to go back to what we had. Yet our God is a God of transitions. God moved Israel from Egypt to the Promised Land. Jesus wandered from the Sea of Galilee to Jerusalem, often not knowing where he would rest his head. And the Disciples fled Jerusalem moving in many directions after the resurrection. Thus the gospel spread to India, Rome, and throughout Europe and Asia. Our God has not changed. Our God is still a God of transitions. As our communities change with society, as our world changes with technology, the church often wants to remain in the past. But to honor God, we need to be willing to transition as God leads. Your new pastor is becoming settled into St. Paul's UCC and Zion’s Reformed UCC. It is another time of transition. Trust God, trust your new pastor, trust the Holy Spirit that abides with you. Build new relationships, adjusting as the Spirit's wisdom leads you. And God will bless you, hearing your prayers and answering them. As your new pastor begins, may you find God blessing you with a smooth transition, may God's words help your faith to grow, and may the Holy Spirit stir you to become a brighter light of Christ's peace for Bowmansville and the surrounding area. I will continue to hold you in prayer. Amen. Peace my friends, God's peace, Rev. Daylight Savings Time ends November 2nd 4 Hear all the latest... Thanksgiving in Other Lands We tend to think of Thanksgiving as a holiday unique to the United States. But America’s neighbors to the north and south celebrated it even earlier than the Pilgrims’ famed meal in 1621. Christmas Mission Collection: For the upcoming holiday, the Sunday school has decided to take a collection for the residents at Ephrata Manor. They are asking for gifts for Christmas time. Below is a list of suggested items. We will begin collecting on November 16th and continue thru December 7th. All gifts need to be left unwrapped and placed in the Christmas box that will be located in the parlor room. The Sunday school will see they are delivered to Ephrata Manor in time for Christmas. Thank you for your generous support in helping with this mission. Canada’s first Thanksgiving feast, held by English explorer Martin Frobisher, occurred in Newfoundland in 1578. The country’s Thanksgiving observance is now on the second Monday in October, with holiday fixings that are similar to those enjoyed by Americans. In Mexico in 1598, a large group of explorers, soldiers and Franciscans traveled on sand dunes in what’s now the American Southwest. They were running low on water, so when they reached the Rio Grande, they expressed gratitude to God by feasting on fish, duck and geese. No official date is set for Thanksgiving celebrations in Mexico.
