Opiate overdose is a major public health problem throughout the United States, and a local issue in Bucks County.
According to SAMHSA, it has contributed significantly to accidental deaths among those who use, misuse or abuse
illicit and prescription opioid analgesics. Overdose deaths involving opiates are increasing yearly. This forum will
address the issue of opiate use, with particular attention to transition age youth, ages 16 to 26.
It will feature a youth and family panel, a professional panel, a discussion of brain chemistry related to opiate
addiction, a discussion of the role of medication assisted treatment and motivating individuals to engage in
treatment, and a resource fair.
Who should attend: Those in the behavioral health field, individuals in recovery, families, school staff, adult and
juvenile probation, law enforcement, advocates, and any other community members interested in this topic are
welcome and encouraged to attend this FREE forum. Breakfast and lunch are included.
