VENDOR PROFILE DIAMOND LODGE - JEREMY WHALE
Friday 14 November 2014 ANZ
VENDOR PROFILE
DIAMOND LODGE - JEREMY WHALE
You were the leading vendor last year. To
what do you owe that success and how
hopeful are you of replicating it this year?
“I think the team around me has a huge impact on the success I
have had at the sale so far, I have a great team of very hard working
and loyal staff at home so that plays a huge part in getting the job
done to the High Standard that is required.
“I would like to think I have a chance of replicating last year’s
results, although I have cut my numbers back this year to focus on
quality rather than quantity and by the look of the catalogue this year,
all the vendors have stepped it up a notch with some outstanding
pedigrees so there looks to be a lot of competition out there.”
Which would you consider the stand out lots
in your draft this year?
“Overall, this year the whole draft is outstanding, with support
from clients and my own pinhooks, this would be by far the highest

quality draft Diamond Lodge has presented at a sale.
“We have two colts from Group One-winning mares, Lot 57 by
Exceed & Excel (Danehill), from Miss Raggedy Ann (Faltaat) and Lot
313, by High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells) out of Dane Ripper (Danehill),
along with two-year-olds by leading stallions like Savabeel (Zabeel),
Teofilo (Galileo), Pins (Snippets) and Hard Spun (Danzing).
“We also have a host of exciting newcomers, such as Equiano
(Acclamation) and Per Incanto (Street Cry), so to pinpoint one or two
standouts is a tough one.”
Which type of horse do you believe will sell
well at this sale?
“I think good, physical types of colt with a good shoulder,
reign and girth and a pedigree to match will always sell well,
providing it breezes nicely. But there is always one or two that
surprise.”
How important do you believe a quick breeze
up time is?
“Personally, I don’t think a lightning fast breeze up is important. I
think as long as potential buyers can get a good look at the horse’s
action while at a working gallop, that is adequate.
“As far as I am aware, we don’t race anywhere in the world over
200 metres, so the time a young horse can sprint over that distance
is somewhat irrelevant.”
What interest have you had in your draft both
domestically and from overseas?
“Interest in this year’s draft has been great so far. I have fielded calls
from previous international buyers inquiring about this year’s horses,
as well as many local trainers and bloodstock agents, casting their
eyes over the draft, while working at the Cambridge Jockey Club in the
