MEMBERSHIP EVENT November 10 6:30 PM Featuring Mark Russ Federman, author of Russ & Daughters: Reflections and Recipes from the House That Herring Built Join us and the former owner/proprietor of Russ & Daughters—beloved appetizing store on Manhattan’s Lower East Side—as he tells the story of an immigrant family’s journey from a pushcart in 1907 to “New York’s most hallowed shrine to the miracle of caviar, smoked salmon, ethereal herring, and silken chopped liver” (The New York Times Magazine). Sharing enchanting stories from his acclaimed memoir, Federman will provide a panoramic history of twentieth-century New York and a fascinating look at four generations of people who are really into fish. An appetizing bar will be available for purchase and a Q&A and book signing will follow the program. This event is FREE for NCJW NY members who are in good standing. KnitWits: Knit or crochet hats, scarves, sweaters, or toys for children in hospitals and shelters with a friendly group at Council House, 10 AM second and fourth Mondays, every month—or work at home at your leisure. 2 Jazz on 72nd Street With Kenny Williams and Friends What a party! Jazz on 72nd Street played to standing room only. It was a fun and delicious evening benefiting the Ed Bartosik Memorial Fund to support the arts at NCJW NY. Natalie Katz welcomed guests. Kenny Williams and Friends entertained with great jazz. A well-stocked bar greeted guests. Everyone had a great time. Mr. Petroff is an elder law attorney and healthcare advocate for older adults and people with disabilities. A former staff attorney for healthcare affairs for the New York City Department for the Aging, his focus includes Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and planning for long-term care. In addition, we are excited to invite you to the Power of Music with Rima Starr on December 16th from noon to 1 PM in the Café. Ms. Starr has over 35 years of experience as a professional singer (including performing with Pavarotti) and is a music therapist with a Masters in Music Therapy. In the past 6 years, she has survived 3 cancers and a bone marrow transplant. Music has been pivotal to her resiliency and strength. Come learn and grow with Ms. Starr in this interactive workshop.
