Topic: Ordinary Problems, Extraordinary Solutions
Description : Every organization's greatest assets are the knowledge, experience, and ingenuity of its
workforce. The Office of Process Improvement at the Colorado Department of Transportation understands this, and has launched a groundbreaking initiative titled Everyday Ideas that harnesses this powerful and oft-overlooked resource in order to improve operational efficiencies, reduce time and cost, and
lessen the environmental impact of CDOT's work. The core principal of Everyday Ideas is respect for
CDOT's employees; empowering them and giving them the tools and the knowledge necessary to independently improve their processes. This creates an autonomous workforce that is dedicated to continuous improvement. Everyday Ideas is still in its early stages, but has already had an enormously positive
impact on both the workforce and the organization.
Speakers: Gary Vansuch and Andrew Frank from the Colorado Department of Transportation
Biographies: Andrew Frank is a process improvement intern at the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). He began his internship in April of 2014. He is currently engaged in numerous projects,
including assisting the Office of Program Management in mapping their processes and identifying the
triggers behind money encumbrance.
Andrew graduated from Colorado State University this June with a Bachelor of Science in Interdiscipli(Continued on page 3)
