The Office of Process Improvement at the Colorado Department of Transportation understands this, and has launched a groundbreaking initiative titled Everyday Ideas that harnesses this powerful and oft-overlooked resource in order to improve operational efficiencies, reduce time and cost, and lessen the environmental impact of CDOT's work. The core principal of Everyday Ideas is respect for CDOT's employees; empowering them and giving them the tools and the knowledge necessary to independently improve their processes. This creates an autonomous workforce that is dedicated to continuous improvement. Everyday Ideas is still in its early stages, but has already had an enormously positive impact on both the workforce and the organization. He began his internship in April of 2014. He is currently engaged in numerous projects, including assisting the Office of Program Management in mapping their processes and identifying the triggers behind money encumbrance. Gary Vansuch is Director of Process Improvement for the Colorado Department of Transportation (also known as "CDOT"). As a member of the CDOT top executive team, Gary directs efforts to improve the organization's operations and to make government more effective, efficient and elegant. He has over 30 years of business improvement and change leadership experience in the energy, financial services and governmental services sectors. Mr. Vansuch has held several leadership positions within the American Society for Quality (ASQ), including Chair of the Service Quality Division and Chair of the Ishikawa Medal Selection Committee. Gary is a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt and a Certified Change Management Practitioner. Additionally, Gary served 6 years with the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award program, including 4 years as a Senior Examiner and as a member of the national Case Study Development Team. He has also been a Judge for ASQ's International Team Excellence Awards, and a Judge for the RIT / USA Quality Cup competition for improvement teams.
