Challenging%or%Maladaptive%behaviours%typically%refer%to%aggressive,%selfI
injurious%or%destructive%behaviours.%They%commonly%occur%in%ASD/%ID%and%
lead%to%decreased%social%engagement,%increased%need%for%residential%care,%
medication%and%health%and%safety%concerns.%Assessment%of%these%
behaviours%is%labour%intensive%and%relies%heavily%on%data%gathering%that%
may%not%always%be%accurate.%Additionally%stress%may%accumulate%in%an%
individual%over%a%period%of%time%and%result%in%maladaptive%behaviours%
without%any%apparent%cause.%An%inability%to%identify%antecedent%to%
behaviours%significantly%impacts%on%appropriate%environmental%
modification.%Technology%may%support%functional%analysis%of%behaviour%
leading%to%tools%to%support%individuals%and%caregivers.%This%may%include%
tools%to%collect%data%in%realItime%for%behavioural%analysis%using%PDAs,%tools%
to%support%the%individual%or%caregivers%recognise%heightened%arousal%and%
intervene%to%avert%maladaptive%behaviour.%The%collection%of%multimodal%

over%the%web%platform,%designed%as%a%‘virtual%window’%for%care%
environments%(www.openwindow.ie).%OW%is%designed%to%provide%social%
and%cultural%experiences%that%are%of%personal%meaning,%include%family,%
friends,%community%and%health%care%staff%and%enhance%these%dimensions%of%
living%in%residential%care%or%at%home.%%%Key%aspects%of%‘Social%Citizenship’%
(Bartlett%&%O’Connor%2010)%and%‘Personhood’%(Kitwood%1997)%underpin%the%
potential%of%OW,%in%particular%identity,%relationships%and%inclusion%reflected%
in%the%concept%of%Personhood%and%interconnectedness%and%partnerships%
identified%by%Social%Citizenship.%OW%has%the%potential%to%enhance%
maintenance%of%relationships%between%family,%people%with%dementia%and%
caregivers%as%a%feature%of%quality%care.%%Enhancing%the%experience%of%
personhood%and%social%citizenship%may%ensure%that%people%with%dementia%
are%still%seen%and%treated%as%an%equal%citizen%underpins%this%study#
Twelve%subtypes%within%Asperger%syndrome%have%been%identified%in%terms%
of%prevalence%rates,%social%functioning%level%and%social%behaviour%
characteristics%based%on%a%unique,%longitudinal%project%with%100%
participants%using%social%drama%as%intervention%(O’Sullivan,%2012).%%These%
subtypes%may%also%be%defined%by%other%characteristics.%%%The%proposal%is%
that%the%videoIrecorded%drama%sessions%from%multiple%timeIpoints%for%each%
participant%will%be%mined%for%candidate%behaviours%of%interest,%primarily%
related%to%the%difficulties%with%selfIsynchrony,%with%the%rhythm%and%timing%
