Director’s Message
The Parks and Recreation Department offers affordable activities for all age groups that are
recreational, social, cultural, physical and creative. Our staff works hard to meet the recreational
needs of the community.
They have planned exciting special events including the Elf on the Shelf Expedition, Soup with
Santa, and the Winter Wonderland.
New programs introduced include cartooning, adult guitar lessons, archery, and quilting!
Pickleball (for the 55+ group) is growing exponentially in Guilford and we have responded by
adding more pickleball time in the Community Center. There are numerous
opportunities for fitness classes, creative expression, and socialization. Delicious breakfasts and
lunches are offered throughout the week. Bus transportation is available for errands and medical
appointments as well.
As weather permits, there will be supervised ice skating at Mill Pond. When there is sufficient
snow, families can enjoy sledding at Bittner Park and Baldwin Middle School. Cross country skiing can also be enjoyed at East River Preserve, and Bittner Park.
We encourage you to stay active during the winter months and benefit from the
opportunities we provide to meet your recreational needs.
Sincerely,
Rick Maynard
Parks and Recreation Director

Fitness Class Descriptions
Join all of our fabulous instructors (Christine Gaynor, Angela Creamer, Ali Beale, Leslie Prodis and Lynda Corcoran!)
YOGA FOR BEGINNERS: (SATURDAYS: 10:00 - 11:30 A.M.)
A class designed for beginners as well experienced yogis yearning for deeper knowledge of the practice. Explore the foundations of asana (posture) from the
ground up while gaining flexibility and a heightened sense of body awareness. Dive deeper into the philosophy of yoga, master various breathing techniques,
learn energy anatomy and feel more confident on your mat. This class spans the full spectrum of yoga and lends itself to more than just the physical practice.
Please see all other yoga program descriptions online.
BEGINNER MEDITATION: (THURSDAYS: 7:00 - 8:00 P.M.)
Have you been reading about the physical and mental benefits of meditation? Are you curious but don’t know where to start? This class is perfect for both
beginners and experienced practitioners. It will provide simple, accessible techniques to foster mindfulness and conscious, sustained attention that allows for
inner quiet, contentment and relief from stress. The focus will be to help you develop a personal practice suited to your daily life.
SUNRISE BOOTCAMP: (TUESDAY/THURSDAY: 7:00 - 7:45 A.M.)
Get in, Get Out, Get your day started right! Sunrise Bootcamp is based on High Intensity Interval Training (H.I.I.T); work as hard as you can for a specified
period of time (30 seconds, 40 seconds, etc.) then recover for a specified period of time (20, seconds, 10 seconds, etc). This technique is one of the best ways
to burn fat and increase cardiovascular endurance in a short period of time. The class begins with a warm up, followed by 30 minutes of H.I.I.T., cool down,
and stretch. Each class is different, focusing on different muscle groups, training techniques, and H.I.I.T. configurations. You won’t believe how much fun
you can have working so hard!
TABATA/H.I.I.T. : (MONDAYS: 6:00 - 7:00 P.M.)
Based on the principles of Tabata and H.I.I.T, this class is one of best ways to improve your cardiovascular fitness in the least amount of time, as well as burn
fat without causing your body to burn your own muscle tissue. The class begins with a warm up, followed by 30 - 40 minutes of interval training blasts, cool
down, and stretch. Each class is different, focusing on different muscle groups, training techniques, and Tabata and H.I.I.T. configurations.
SCULPT FUSION: (MON/WED/FRI: 7:00 - 7:55 A.M.) OR (TUES/THURS 7:45 - 8:40 A.M.)
A total body strength conditioning workout designed to sculpt, tone and strengthen all the major muscle groups with simple moves using free weights, bars,
balls, and bands. This class blends strength training with core and toning moves to not only sculpt muscles, but to also improve mobility, stability, balance,
and posture while having fun!
CARDIO TONE: (MON / WED / FRI OR TUES / THURS 8:50 - 9:45 A.M.)
Cardio Tone combines the definition of muscles and cardio exercise for a total body workout. Participants will improve cardio endurance and increase muscle
strength with resistance training. The workout will include body bars, bands weights and floor work to provide a higher intensity workout within your limits.
ABSOLUTION: (MON/WED/FRI: 8:00 - 8:45 A.M.)
Tone your abs and wake up your joints! We will focus on abdominal and core conditioning combined with a warm-up and overall stretching to maintain flexibility. All levels welcome!
TABATA TOTAL BODY: (WEDNESDAYS : 6:00 - 7:00 PM)
Based on the principles of H.I.I.T., this is a Total Body Workout - 8 cycles of; 1 minute cardio, 1 minute lower body, 1 minute upper body, 1 minute core.
The session in its entirety is a progression of four phases, going from Lower Intensity and isolation weight training to complex cardio and compound conditioning drills. Whether you’re short on time or looking to blast through that plateau, this class accomplishes a lot in one workout and you will see measureable
results by the end of the session.
STRENGTH & STRETCH: (MON/WED/FRI: 8:00 - 8:45 A.M.)
This class is an intense strength training workout using balls, weights, bands and body bars. Designed to focus on strengthening and toning. All fitness levels
