PRODUCT OVERVIEW
The RTP8437/85, 24-Channel Isolated Change-ofState Digital Input card provides the means to read
the states of 24 single-ended AC or DC digital or
discrete field signals. All input channels are isolated
from the RTP system ground with optical isolators.
Each group of four input channels is isolated from
the other groups. The card also contains change-ofstate circuitry that generates an RTP interrupt
whenever any input channel changes state for
sequence-of-events (SOE) processing.
This card can be ordered with one of six input
voltage levels; all 24 channels are configured for the
same input voltage. Available input voltage levels are:
5V, 12V, 24V, 48V, 125V, and 220V. Input voltage
thresholds for the various ranges are set to approximately 50% of the nominal input voltage. LED
indicators display the logic state of each input.
Each group of four channels can be operated in
either voltage sense mode or contact sense mode
without making any configuration adjustments. The
input circuitry is not sensitive to voltage or current
polarity. In voltage sense mode, the user connects
the return of an external power source to the card,
and each field input must “source” current to the
card input channel from the output of the external
power source. This is also known as voltage source
mode or wetted contact mode.
In contact sense mode, the user connects an external
power source to the card and each field input must
“sink” current from the card input to the return of
the power source. This is also known as current
sink mode, grounded contact mode, or dry contact
mode.
Software-programmed input filtering can be applied
to all input signals. Available input filter selections
range from 6.2 microseconds to 838 milliseconds.
This input filter is intended for use with mechanical
RTP 8437/85 Optically Isolated AC/DC COS Digital Input Card
field contacts that are prone to bouncing, or to
remove AC signal components to provide stable
signal detection.
Field termination to the card is provided by plugable
terminal block connectors. Simple screw terminals
allow quick installation and the plugable design
permits fast and easy card changes without the need
to reattach individual leads. No need for additional
cables or termination modules result in an additional
cost benefit.
