All Praise and Honor
To Jesus Christ
The King
Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
Focus: Jesus will come to judge the living and the dead and
give the kingdom over to the Father
The theme of the final judgment, including the images of divine
kingship and a divine shepherd, dominate today’s liturgy.
Instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925, this feast offers us the
opportunity to deepen our understanding of the mystery of
Christ and beckons us to encounter Jesus, the true shepherd
who guides his flock home to his Father.

THE LORD’S FLOCK
Sheep are high-maintenance animals. They
are not very intelligent. Without guidance and care,
especially in a climate like Israel’s, they would die
quickly from predators, starvation, or just their own slowness.
The scriptural image of us as the Lord’s flock is not terribly
flattering to us, since it is only the never-ending diligence of a
watchful shepherd that allows the flock to survive.
The feast of Christ the King was intended to call the
world back to Christ as the sole power of the world, to bring
back a flock that had been scattered by many negative forces
of the growing industrial, scientific, and war-torn world of the
early twentieth century. It is fitting that, as we celebrate Christ
the King, we hear about Christ the Shepherd who cares for us
and who, likewise, will be there at the end of time.
Interestingly enough, as the Gospel illustrates, our own destiny is determined by the way we have been “shepherds” to the
rest of the flock. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Be Not Too Proud To Pray To God
By Abraham Lincoln
We have been recipients of the choicest
bounties of heaven, we have been
preserved these many years in peace and
prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no
other nation has ever grown.
But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious
Hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched
and strengthened us and we have vainly imagined in the deceitfulness of our hearts that all these things were produced by
some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with
unbroken success, we have become too self sufficient to feel the
necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray
to the God that makes us one.
Divine Mercy Devotion
“Jesus I trust in You”
Through His apparitions and revelations to St. Maria
Faustina, Our Lord made known that His mercy is
unlimited and available to all of humanity, even to the greatest
of sinners. Jesus revealed to St. Faustina the special ways
He desires us to respond to His boundless mercy…
The Divine Mercy Chaplet
The Divine Mercy Novena
The Feast of Divine Mercy
Through Divine Mercy Devotion, Jesus desires that the whole
world understand and trust in the unlimited depth
of His love and mercy. He said that before the
Day of Justice, He is sending the Day of Mercy.
Divine Mercy pamphlets are available in the church vestibule-please take!

Focus on Mental Illness-Impact on the Family
Many families are ill equipped to respond to the multiple
challenges of a family member’s diagnosis of mental illness.
Behaviors can be misinterpreted and finding effective
resources and medical interventions may prove overwhelming.
The strain on the family can be significant. The stigma that
often accompanies this illness may cause families to be hesitant to share their need for support during this difficult time.
How can our parish be of support to families with this need?
Catholic Charities has initiated a support group for people
with mental health challenges to know that they are valued and
genuinely welcome. The group is called the St. Dymphna
Society. Meetings are held the last Tuesday of each month in
Fletcher Hall, at St. John Center, at 6 pm. Mass is held, and
meetings follow. Contact Rebecca Cargile, 664-0340x355. No
reservations are necessary and all are welcome!
