The new centres provide related services close together so patients can quickly be assessed and treated. The Clinical Services Building now under construction at Blacktown Hospital will provide 170 beds and new comprehensive care centres for cancer, cardiac, respiratory and aged care. The project is part of the BMDH Expansion Project Stage 1 and will open in 2015. The new building will connect seamlessly into the existing hospital via a light-filled internal street complete with retail and dining areas. The entry level connects via the hospital street to the existing Emergency Department, outpatient clinics, therapies, medical imaging and other services. On the upper levels, the cancer centre clinics and infusion services occupy most of level 4. On level 5, wards for stroke, rehabilitation and aged care are located adjacent to the dedicated therapy area. In the cardiac centre, coronary care and cardiology wards connect directly to the new clinical measurement unit and cardiac gym, and are close to related speciality areas such as the cath lab, diabetes and respiratory specialities.
