from new industry brands, and
connect with agents and partners. The fair’s atmosphere is very
positive and I noticed some of
the exhibitors at the Shanghai
show have also participated in
the Beijing show earlier in May,
proving the significance of this
platform. Additionally, there are
a number of European brands
who have caught my attention,
particularly from Turkey. Overall,
the Shanghai show has exceeded
my expectations and I have thoroughly enjoyed the show.”
Exhibitors and visitors

professionalism
Exhibitors at ISH Shanghai & CIHE praised the show for its ability
to connect them with their target
audience. Whether they were selling heat pumps, floor-heating
products or their other latest individual heating solutions, the
fair gave exhibitors the chance
to promote their brands, as well
as educate customers on their
unique benefits.
Mr Yang Kun, General Manager

“We have been participating at
ISH Shanghai & CIHE since its inaugural launch in 2012 and have
witnessed a significant advancement of the show. This year, we
met a large number of targeted
customers, mainly distributors. I
believe that East and Central China region will have the fastest
growth rate in China’s home heating market and individual heating
will be the best solution in this region in the foreseeable future.”

Shanghai International HVAC Forum was well organised and the
response from the audience was
great. The forum served as perfect
channel to exchange industry information and share heating
knowledge. The topics covered in
the forum helped raise awareness
for more efficient and energy-saving HVAC products. Additionally,
I noticed an increasing demand
for quality HVAC products in the
East and Central China regions;
this will without a doubt provide
ample business opportunities for
European and North American
suppliers who are looking to tap
the Chinese market.”

Friendly banter about the final
was exchanged and, 40 years after the event, the game was dissected and analysed. The result,
however, remains the same – sorry Netherlands, despite leading
after only 90 seconds, it is the result after 90 minutes that counts.

FEST
54th Congress a
huge success
There were a few events that
took place in Munich in September, some better known than others. No, we are not talking about
the Oktoberfest, well, at least,
not “the Oktoberfest”. This event
was a little more exclusive.
From the 11-14 September, the
Bavarian capital city of Munich
was host to the 54th FEST congress. S-HVAC wholesalers from
all over Europe made their way
to the city on the river Isar to attend what could only be described as a particularly unique
event.
The first day of the congress was
packed full of activities to allow
the delegates to gather as much
practical insight into the German
wholesale trade as possible. The
participants were treated to a
busman's holiday by visiting the
headquarters of Giegner. The visit
comprised of an informative tour
of the warehouses and logistic
centre followed by a presentation
on the company history and
question and answer session.
As everybody knows, Munich is
home two famous football teams,
1860 Munich and Bayern Munich. Both teams play their home
games at the Allianz Arena. This
was to be the next stop on the
journey – not for a match, but for
a tour of the stadium with a difference. The tour guides modified
the normal tour to give the visitors an in-depth look at the tech-
nology that goes into building
and powering a football stadium.
After completing the extensive
tour, the group was joined by Paul
Breitner, the German international and one of the goal scorers
from the 1974 World Cup final.
The last piece of information may
not seem so important until one
point out that there was to be a
panel discussion. The members
are from three footballing nations
and, more importantly, represen-
holder Brazil to a goalless draw.
After a very amusing discussion,
it was time to return to the city
for the welcome dinner.
Friday was the main congress
day and they say that “the proof
of the pudding is in the eating”
and this was the case in Munich.
Two years of meticulous planning
by the German association DGH
resulted in perfection. A first class
and varied combination of speakers, presentations, workshops
and discussions made the day

Frans Geurts, Director General of FEST released the following statement:
both interesting and informative.
Panel discussions allowed leading representatives from industry
to express their opinions on the
current situation and future of
the S-HVAC sector and exchange
views with the wholesalers. The
presentations and their complex
nature cannot be shown here fully, for more information the papers can be found at

concluded with FEST President
Benedikt Mahr thanking the delegates for attending the congress and informing them that

the 55th congress will be held in
Gent in September 2016.
Saturday was set aside for a tour
of the city, a sail on Lake Starnberg and a evening with a difference. The Bavarians pride themselves on being rather “unique”.
This was to be demonstrated at
the gala event. The delegates
dressed in traditional Bavarian
dress to attend their very own
“Oktoberfest”. Typical Bavarian
fare accompanied by live music
and dance made for an enjoyable
evening and conclusion to a very
special few days.
All those who contributed to the 54thFEST congress : Thank you for all
your excellent work!
It is fair to conclude that the 54th FEST congress was a great success!
So many people have contributed in so many ways to turn this event
into a smoothly running meeting with many very interesting presentations
and a very good atmosphere for discussion and networking. We owe
much gratitude to President Benedikt Mahr for selecting Munich as the
venue, to the German Association DG-Haustechnik for giving structure
to the program and for organizing this conference and to the participants
for supporting the conference in many direct and indirect ways. We
thank all sponsors for their generosity and interest in the conference.
The staff of DG Haustechnik has taken care of professional excellence
and high-quality catering.
The 54th FEST congress staff has worked very professionally in registering
all participants, interacting with
them on many details, organizing
many aspects of the conference
such as catering, time coordination,
logistics and accommodation. M.
Uwe Schwarting, M. Bernd Werschmöller and M. Achim Laubenthal are gratefully acknowledged.
You as participants are thanked for
all your great input and for many
fruitful discussions and interaction.
“This was a great meeting” many
of you have said to me. Thank you
for being so positive!”

Intersolar Summit India
Excellent opportunity to expand
market presence
When the Indian government
launched the program "Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission"
in 2010, the installed solar capacity of the country was just 30
MW. With the help of the program and a three-phase plan, India will become one of the
world’s leading markets for solar
energy. By the year 2022 the government intends to install a capacity of 20,000 MW. Currently,
the country is well on its way to
achieving this goal. The second
phase, which has been active
since 2013, provides for creating
an additional 10,000 MW by
2017. By the end of May 2014
completely financed by Geberit
using its own funds, as well as by
new debt to be taken on. The offer is subject to customary conditions including an acceptance
rate in excess of 90% of the
shares and clearance from relevant merger control authorities.
The committee made up by those
of Sanitec’s board members who
do not represent shareholders
who have undertaken to accept
the Offer has unanimously recommended Sanitec’s shareholders to accept the offer – a corresponding recommendation is released by Sanitec today. In addition, the two largest shareholders
of Sanitec, EQT and Zeres Capital,
jointly holding 25.5% of the Sanitec shares, have given irrevocable
undertakings to accept the offer
for all of their shares.
Geberit CEO and Chairman of the
Board of Directors Albert M.
Baehny comments as follows:
“This transaction will make us
the leader in the sanitary products industry and expand the addressable market for Geberit. We
will strengthen our access to end
consumers and our presence in
showrooms. These aspects are
crucial, especially in those markets where end consumers are
the key decision makers. The
transaction is a promising union
of leading brands in the areas of
sanitary technology and bathroom ceramics. The outstanding
reputation of both companies for
product quality and reliability,
service and innovation combined
with strong brands make this
combination a perfect match.”
For Geberit, the merger with Sanitec represents an expansion of
its strategic focus. The future
product offerings will be enhanced with bathroom ceramics.
The new company will be the
market leader for sanitary products in Europe, combining behind-the-wall technical knowhow with in-front-of-the-wall design competence. Geberit is excited about the prospect of collaborating with Sanitec’s professional and knowledgeable staff
to extract the expected significant
benefits from the combination of
the two companies. All elements
of the integration and target organization will be developed
jointly with representatives from
both companies.
According to a pro forma calculation based on 2013 figures and
not taking into account the merits
of the combination, the combined
company generated net sales of
roughly CHF 2.9 billion with an
operating profit (EBIT) of just under CHF 600 million, corresponding to an EBIT margin of about
21%. Net income was just under
CHF 500 million, which corresponds to a return on sales of approximately 17%.

India had a solar capacity of
2,500 MW and in June the government announced the addition
of another 1500 MW grid-connected solar power.
Pforzheimer Solar Promotion International and the FMMI
(Freiburg Management und Marketing International GmbH) together with MMI (Messe
München International) hosted
the Intersolar Summit India on
September 22, 2014 in the Hotel
Vivanta By Taj – Yeshwantpur in
the Indian high-tech city of Bangalore to illustrate the opportunities in the Indian solar energy
market for investors, manufacturers and project developers and
to discuss current developments
with market players. The conference was Intersolar’s first summit
on Indian ground and it began
the countdown for the trade fair
Intersolar India, which takes place
during November 18–20, 2014
in Mumbai. The event will be
opened by Jens Rohde, Consul
General of the German Consulate
General in Bangalore.
An important focus of the presentations of the summit will be
the implications of the "Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission." Indian government officials
will talk about the experiences
of the first phase and make clear
the possibilities of the second
phase, which is currently being
carried out. The participants can
also expect a series of interactive
lectures on the political conditions in the major Indian states
and top-notch podium discussions with expert panels. Confirmed are, among others, Dr. P.C.
Pant from the Ministry of New
and Renewable Energy, Govern-
ment of India, Shri S.R. Mohanty,
Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Madhya Pradesh,
New & Renewable Energy Department and Sri M. Kamalakar
Babu, Managing Director of the
Non-Conventional Energy Development Corporation of Andhra
Pradesh Ltd. (NEDCAP).
The substantial growth in the
construction of new solar energy
systems will present the Indian
energy infrastructure with major
challenges. Therefore, another
program point is dedicated to
the technological applications
that enable the efficient integration of solar energy production
with the Indian power grid and
ensure supply security. In order
to accomplish this goal, various
options have to be evaluated,
such as mini-grids and energy
storage.
