You may wish to refer also to the following: Registration website (nus.edu.sg/registrar/event/registration.html) for the latest deadlines of various registration-related activities; Freshman Guide (nus.edu.sg/oam/publication/freshmenguide), issued by the Office of Admission, for other essential information relevant to new students; and Office of Student Affairs website (nus.edu.sg/osa/iss) for helpful information for the International Student. Photograph for NUS Student Card – to submit within two working days of acceptance of offer of admission, or by 7 January 2015, whichever is earlier You are required to submit your photograph within two working days of acceptance of offer of admission, or by 7 January 2015, whichever is earlier. You can do so via the Online Photo Submission System (myaces.nus.edu.sg/photoVerification/PhotoVerificationNewLoginServlet?hAction=newStudent ), which will be accessible from 13 December 2014 onwards. Here, you will be able to check the required specifications of the photograph you need to submit for making your NUS Student Card. It is your responsibility to access this same system again two working days after you have submitted your photograph to check whether it has been approved for use. Resubmission of a new photograph (which meets the specifications) is required if your photograph is not approved. Please be reminded that late submission of your photograph will delay the processing of your NUS Student Card. 2. Qualifying English Test (QET) – QET will be held on 20 November 2014 Students who do not possess the necessary English Language qualifications will have to sit for the Qualifying English Test (QET) set by the Centre for English Language Communication (CELC). You are required to ascertain the following for yourself from information published at the QET website (nus.edu.sg/registrar/event/registration-qet.html): whether you have met the criteria to be exempted from taking the QET; the objectives of the test; and the format of the test. If you miss this test due to extenuating circumstances, you are required to sit for the next QET in July 2015. Please refer to the QET website for more details. Page 2 of 14 3. Registration Procedures Overview of the Registration Procedures and Timelines: Online Photo Submission & approval by 23 December 2014, 9.00am Registration (Part Two) Accept Offer & collection of NUS Student Card 2 January 2015 9 to 15 Dec 2014 Registration (Part One) 22 to 29 December 2014 In order to collect your NUS Student Card and complete Registration (Part Two) on 2 January 2015, you are advised to follow the above timelines in completing the various procedures. Should you have any difficulty in following the above timelines, please write to UGRegistration@nus.edu.sg for advice. 3.1. Registration (Part One) – to be completed between 22 and 29 December 2014 You will need to access the Registration System (isisregpart1.nus.edu.sg/) with your Application Number and the first eight digits of the Application PIN. The entire registration process consists of a few steps which will take about 15 minutes. Figure 1 shows the screenshot when you have completed Registration (Part One). Figure 1: Screenshot upon Completion of Registration (Part One) If you are under 18 years of age at the time of completing Registration (Part One), you must print the following forms from the “Authorisation Requirements” section, which is found at Step 4 (see Figure 2), have your parent/guardian sign the forms and bring them to the Registrar’s Office for submission on 2 January 2015, or at a date given by the Registrar’s Office for late offer cases. If you have forgotten your password but have not reset it yet, you can access the Registration System (isisregpart1.nus.edu.sg/) (before 11 January 2015) to retrieve your password (see Figure 4). After 11 January 2015, you can seek help by sending an email to ITCare@nus.edu.sg, stating your full name and student number, as well as attach a scanned image of your NUS Student Card. Alternatively, you may reset it through short message service (SMS). A step-by-step guide to use the SMS service is accessible at the Computer Centre’s website (comcen.nus.edu.sg/services/mobile/nusnet-passwordreset-via-mobile/). Registration (Part Two) (a) All students – 2 January 2015 – at Registrar’s Office, University Hall, Lee Kong Chian Wing, Level 4 (see map on page 14) You will report, in person, at the Registrar’s Office (2.00pm – 5.00pm) to collect your NUS Student Card and have it activated on the spot. Please note that one day after completion of Registration (Part Two), you will be able to bid for modules on the Centralised Online Registration System (CORS) (nus.edu.sg/cors), and use your NUS Student Card to access NUS facilities/systems as well as borrow books from the Library. For identification purposes, you will need to bring your NRIC (Singaporeans or Permanent Residents) / passport (International Students) and your letter of offer issued by the Office of Admissions. In addition, if your are under 18 years of age, you are required to bring the following forms (printed from the Registration System while completing Registration (Part One)), duly completed and signed by your parent/guardian, for submission: • • • Release of Liability Authorisation of Medical Procedures – compulsory for International Students Appointment of Local (Singapore-based) Representative – compulsory for International Students International Students only Besides your NUS Student Card, you will also receive the following documents: • Original In-Principle Approval (IPA) Letter, with NUS stamp • Appointment letter, with the date and time for application and collection of the Student’ Pass Please read Annex 1 for information on Orientation Briefing, ICA’s Off-Site Exercise for the application of Student’s Pass and other relevant instructions for International Students. (b) 4. Late offers If you receive your offer from the Office of Admissions after 22 December 2014, please write to UGRegistration@nus.edu.sg for advice. The Registrar’s Office will send an email on the alternative date of collection of NUS Student Card and other registration-related instructions. Pre-Admission Medical Examination – to complete by 30 December 2014 – at University Health Centre, UHC (http://www.nus.edu.sg/uhc/healthservice/img/contact/MAPKRC.jpg) As an admission condition, all incoming students are required to undergo a medical examination. The University reserves the right to refuse your admission to or exclude you from any particular course of study if you decline to undergo such health examinations or refuse any prescribed tests. The medical examination may be done (i) by your own physician in Singapore; (ii) in your home country or (iii) at the University Health Centre, UHC (nus.edu.sg/uhc/healthservice). If you choose to do (i) or (ii), you will need to submit the completed prescribed medical report form and the original laboratory and chest x-ray reports, written in ENGLISH. If you have done a similar health check not more than six months before the time of registration, you must still complete and submit Part 1 of the prescribed medical report form, together with documentary proof of the earlier medical examination, to UHC by 30 December 2014. University Health Centre shall review the exemption on a case by case basis and reserve the right to refuse an exemption. Medical report forms may be downloaded from, and appointments made at, the UHC’s website (nus.edu.sg/uhc/healthservice/services/preexams.html). For enquiries, please write to uhc_health@nus.edu.sg. Page 5 of 14 5. Tuition Grant – see Annex 2 The Singapore Government provides subsidies for the cost of undergraduate degree programmes at NUS. This subsidy is known as the Tuition Grant. Information on the Tuition Grant is available from the Office of Financial Aid in the Office of Admissions (nus.edu.sg/oam/financialaid/faq-moe.html) as well as on the Ministry of Education (MOE) website (tgonline.moe.gov.sg/docs/TG-FAQ.pdf). More details on the Tuition Grant can be found in Annex 2. For enquiries, please write to financialaid@nus.edu.sg. 6. Integrated Student Information System (myISIS) myISIS (myisis.nus.edu.sg) is a single entry point for students to manage a wide range of student transactions relating to academic, finance and personal information matters. To access myISIS, you will need your NUSNET ID and NUSNET password which are released to you upon completion of Registration (Part One). To help new students navigate within myISIS, the guides and other useful resources are published at the NUS Student Portal (myportal.nus.edu.sg/studentportal/eservices/all/myisis.html). 7. NUS Email All students will have an email account at NUS that will be their official point of contact. It is your responsibility to check your NUS email regularly and be aware of the latest notices/circulars that may be posted on NUS Student Portal (myportal.nus.edu.sg/). Please note that NUS email account will only be activated one day after you have completed Registration (Part One). You may access your NUS email via the NUS home page (nus.edu.sg) by clicking on “myEmail” located at the top right hand corner of the webpage as shown in Figure 5: Figure 5: Screenshot - NUS Home Page You will then be directed to the screen below, where you will need to navigate as shown in Figure 6 and sign-in using your NUSNET account which are released to you upon the completion of Registration (Part One). Figure 6: Navigation to NUS Email Sign-In Page If you have forgotten your NUSNET password but have not reset it yet, you may re-access the Registration System (isisregpart1.nus.edu.sg) before the system close on 11 January 2015 to retrieve the information under Step 4 (see Figure 4). If you have since change your NUSNET password, please email to ITCare@nus.edu.sg to reset the password, stating your full name and student number, as well as attach a scanned image of your NUS Student Card. Alternatively, you may reset it through short message service (SMS). International Undergraduate Students Orientation Briefing by Office of Student Affairs (OSA) This will be held on: Date Time Venue : 7 January 2015, Wednesday : 2.00pm : Lecture Theatre 27 (Faculty of Science) Students are also encouraged to read about upcoming events on OSA’s webpage (nus.edu.sg/osa/iss). 2. Late Registration All International Students are to register latest by 2 January 2015. If you are unable to do so, you are required to apply for late registration. Please download and complete the “Application for Late Registration Form” (share.nus.edu.sg/registrar/info/forms/Application-for-Late-registration-Form.pdf) and email it together with your supporting documents to the Registrar’s Office at UGRegistration@nus.edu.sg by Monday, 15 December 2014. Late registration will be by appointment basis at the Registrar’s Office. 3. Immigration and Checkpoint Authority of Singapore, ICA (http://www.ica.gov.sg/) – Student’s Passes All International Students will require a Student’s Pass (see Figure 7) issued by the Immigration and Checkpoint Authority of Singapore (ICA) (ica.gov.sg) during your candidature in NUS. You should be familiar with ICA’s requirements regarding Student’s Pass matters by checking ICA’s web-published information on Student's Passes for University students (ica.gov.sg/page.aspx?pageid=325&secid=182). Figure 7: Specimen of Student’s Pass If your application is approved, ICA shall grant you an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter. If you are from a visa-required country (http://www.ica.gov.sg/services_centre_overview.aspx?pageid=252), the IPA letter will be sent to you via email. This IPA letter will serve as your single-entry visa into Singapore. You are advised to read the IPA letter and ICA’s communications to you carefully and prepare the required documents/items ready for submission to ICA for your Student’s Pass application (ica.gov.sg/page.aspx?pageid=325&secid=182#formalities). Page 10 of 14 UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS – SEMESTER 2, ACADEMIC YEAR 2014/2015 Annex 1 3.1. ICA’s Off-Site Exercise for Issuance of Student’s Passes ICA has arranged for an offsite enrolment for the issuance of Student's Passes. You are required to report for offsite enrolment accordingly to the schedule stipulated in your appointment letter from ICA during the following periods: Enrolment session: Date: 9 January 2015 Time: 3.30pm Venue: Multi-Purpose Sports Hall 1, MPSH1 Issuance session: Date: 20 January 2015 Time: 9.00am – 12.00pm and 2.00pm – 4.30pm Venue: Multi-Purpose Sports Hall 4, MPSH4 It is your responsibility to be prepared with the necessary information and duly completed forms in preparation for both the above sessions in order to efficiently complete the formalities during your scheduled appointment time. For the list of documents to bring, please refer to ICA website (http://www.ica.gov.sg/page.aspx?pageid=325&secid=182). In addition, you must also print and sign the Terms and Conditions of Student’s Pass (http://www.ica.gov.sg/data/resources/docs/Visitor%20Services/ Terms_and_Conditions_STP.pdf). Please follow all instructions issued in ICA’s communications to you, as well as be familiar with ICA’s requirements regarding Student’s Pass matters and relevant eservices and forms managed by ICA (ica.gov.sg/e_services.aspx?pageid=313). In addition, you may wish to explore the comprehensive summary on Student’s Pass matters (nus.edu.sg/osa/ssc/services/students-pass) provided by the SSC as part of their wide-ranging suite of services for NUS students. If you have not been scheduled for this offsite exercise, or you are unable to honour the appointment issued to you by ICA, you are required to call in person at ICA for completion of Student’s Pass formalities by making an e-appointment (eappointment.ica.gov.sg/ibook/index.do) directly with ICA. 3.2. Additional Medical Examination for Student’s Pass Application The issuance of the Student’s Pass is subject to the outcome of a medical examination. Students who fail to fulfil the medical requirements will not be issued with a Student’s Pass. The medical examination may be done in your home country if you have never resided in Singapore on any long term immigration passes previously. However, it must be done using ICA’s prescribed medical report form (ica.gov.sg/data/resources/docs/Visitor%20Services/MedicalReport.pdf), and submitted with the relevant laboratory reports for the HIV test and x-ray. An official translation of the laboratory reports is required if it is not in the English language. At the time of submission, the laboratory reports must not be more than three months from the date of issue. You may also opt to have this medical examination (together with the Pre-Admission Medical Examination) done at the University Health Centre (UHC) (nus.edu.sg/uhc/healthservice). If you choose to do this, you need to note that the results of the various laboratory tests will only be ready for collection after five working days. It will be your responsibility to plan the timing of your medical examination such as to have all necessary documents in good time for your appointment with ICA for the Enrolment session. If you are residing in Singapore on any other long term immigration passes currently, you are required to undergo the medical examination in Singapore, if the medical examination is done more than two years ago. 3.3. Tuition Grant The Tuition Grant is provided for every student who is a Singapore Citizen. When completing Registration (Part One), you need to print the Tuition Grant form and mail the duly completed and signed form to the following by 30 January 2015: Office of Financial Aid c/o Office of Admission, National University of Singapore, University Town Stephen Riady Centre, 2 College Avenue West, #01-03, Singapore 138607 If you are 21 years old and above, you may sign the form yourself; otherwise, your parent/guardian will have to sign instead. Students who do not submit the completed form by the stipulated deadline will be charged the non-subsidised fees by NUS (nus.edu.sg/registrar/edu/UG/fees.html). When completing Registration (Part One), Singapore Permanent Residents and International Students need to indicate if you wish to apply for the Tuition Grant by completing the Tuition Grant Option Form, but you need not print it for submission. Instead, if you wish to apply for the Grant, you will have to submit an online application via the Ministry of Education (MOE) website (tgonline.moe.gov.sg/tgis/normal/index.action) by 21 January 2015. Students who do not apply and complete execution of the Tuition Grant Agreement within the period scheduled by MOE will be charged the non-subsidised tuition fees by NUS. Payment of Tuition Fees In line with the government’s efforts to promote electronic payment, all students are requested to pay their fees through GIRO. The process to apply for payment by GIRO (Debit Bank Account) is as follows: Access myISIS (myisis.nus.edu.sg - Self-Service > Campus Finances > Maintain Bank Accounts > Debit Bank Account Details section > Add a new Debit Bank Account) and follow the instructions to complete the form. Submit the printed completed form on Registration Day or to the Student Service Centre by Tuesday, 13 January 2015. The Form is to be submitted by the due date or within three weeks of submission of bank details online, whichever is earlier. Fees are to be paid before a stipulated deadline, failing which a late fee would be imposed. Please refer to the Office of Financial Services website (nus.edu.sg/finance/NoticeonPaymentofFees.html) for information on payment deadlines as well as the mode of payment. Financial Assistance The Office of Financial Aid (nus.edu.sg/financialaid) in the Office of Admission administers the various financial assistance schemes available to NUS undergraduates. A summary of some of the schemes is listed below: Page 12 of 14 UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS – SEMESTER 2, ACADEMIC YEAR 2014/2015 Annex 2 3.1. Application for Tuition Fee Loan (TFL) Scheme (optional) Students who wish to apply for the Tuition Fee Loan scheme can choose either of two banks, DBS Bank or OCBC Bank. The loan application form can be downloaded from the Office of Financial Aid website (nus.edu.sg/oam/financialaid/loans/financial-loans-tuitionfee.html). The deadline for submitting the loan application form is 17 January 2015. 3.2. Application for Central Provident Fund (CPF) Education Scheme (optional) Singapore Citizens who wish to apply for the use of CPF savings under the scheme are required to apply online through the CPF website (mycpf.cpf.gov.sg/Members/Gen-Info/Features/CPFEdn_Scheme.htm). Students who wish to apply for the CPF Education Scheme with effect from Semester 1 of AY2014/15 may do so between 2 to 27 December 2014. 3.3. Post-Secondary Education Account Scheme (for Singapore Citizens) Singapore Citizens who have funds in their Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA) are permitted to utilize the funds for payment of tuition fees and miscellaneous student fees (MSF), Ridge View Residential College Programme or University Town College Programme or University Scholars Programme college (accommodation and meal) fees as well as enrichment programmes approved and endorsed by the University. Interested applicants may submit the Standing Order form to the Office of Financial Aid between 1 and 12 December 2014. Please refer to the Office of Financial Aid website (nus.edu.sg/oam/financialaid/loans/financial-loans-post-secondary.html) for further details. 3.4. Disbursement of Financial Aid Funds Disbursement of financial aid funds is subject to students’ fulfilment of all the loan and/or bursary requirements. The financial aid funds will first be used to clear all outstanding tuition fees, MSF and hostel fees (if applicable) before any balance is credited to students’ bank account. Students must update their Credit Bank Account Details and Payment Address via myISIS for any balance to be credited to their bank account. More information on the Credit Bank Account Details and Payment Address can be found at the FAQ section of the Office of Financial Services website (nus.edu.sg/finance/FAQStudentFinanceMatters.html).
