Joe Vigil
Coaching Legend – 14x National Coach of the Year
As a 14-time National Coach of the Year, Joe Vigil is considered the Patriarch of American Cross
Country Running. His legacy has been recognized by many, as he has been inducted into 11
Halls of Fame and has been recognized as the
Jim Councilmen Coach of the Year twice – most
recently in 2013. As a collegiate Head Coach,
Vigil’s teams won an unprecedented 19 National
Championships including the 1995 NCAA D-II
Cross Country title with a perfect score (15). On
the international scene, he coached in two Olympic Games and has had a hand in 20 World Cross Country team and
Individual medals.
Adrian Wheatley
University of Illinois Assistant Coach (Sprints)
At the 2014 Big Ten Outdoor Track Meet, Illinois had two finalists in every sprint and hurdle
event with Coach Wheatley’s athletes scoring
74 of the team’s 109 points. Their effort helped
the squad to a second place finish, the highest in
20 years. He has coached 22 All-Americans, 30
NCAA qualifiers and 11 Big Ten champions. Under his direction, Illinois runners have re-written
the track history books. In all, 37 of his athletes
are now sitting in the top 10 performance list in
their respective events.
Brad Wymer
Solon (IA) Track & Field Assistant Coach (Throws)
An Assistant Coach of the Year award recipient, and member of four State Track and Field
Team titles, Coach Wymer has mentored four
High School All-Americans, 18 state champions, nine state runners-up, and 12 Drake Relay
Champions. Under his guidance, his throwers
have set meet records in the discus at the state
meet (both boys and girls) and at the Drake Relays (girls), as well as a state meet record in the
shot put (girls).
Tim O’Neill
Davenport Assumption (IA) Head Track & Field Coach
Under Coach O’Neill’s direction, the Knights have two championships and three runner-up finishes on the girls
side; and four top eight finishes on the boys side
at the state track meet. O’Neill’s athletes have
scored an astonishing 657.5 points at the State
Track & Field Championships, including a Class
3A state record 107 points in 2014. O’Neill was
named the 2014 “Coach of the Year” by the Iowa
Track and Field Coaches Association and was
also recognized by the USTFCCCA as the top
girls coach in the State of Iowa last year.

Monte Stratton
Pro Elite Coach / former Head Coach at TCU
Monte Stratton is the coach of three-time
U.S. Olympian, and Silver Medalist, Darvis “Doc”
Patton and 2003 World Champion Kim Collins (100m). He is among the elite coaches in
the state of Texas. As the head coach at TCU
and UT-Arlington, his teams won 24 conference
crowns in 18 seasons, produced six NCAA National Champions, 87 All-Americans and finished
in the top five at the NCAA Championships five
times. He has coached six athletes to under 10
second times in the 100m.

Will Freeman
Grinnell College Men’s Track & Field / Cross Country Head Coach
Coach Freeman’s teams have won 31 conference titles in his 35
years at Grinnell. He is a former National Chairman for Coaching Education for USA Track &
Field and currently is the Chair of the D-III NCAA
Track & Field Committee. An internationallyranked pole vaulter at the University of Florida,
Freeman was an All-American and won five SEC
titles in the event. He also was a finalist at the
U.S. Olympic Trials and was Penn Relays champion in the event. In 2010 he was inducted into
the University of Florida Athletics Hall of Fame.
Diane Wholey
Texas Tech, World Class Jumps Coach
Diane Wholey has served as the coach for men’s and women’s
high jump, javelin, decathlon and heptathlon and recently moved to
the position of Assistant Athletic Director. Wholey is certified as a USA
Track & Field Level II coach in sprints, hurdles,
relays, throws, jumps and combined events. She
is the only female in the U.S. currently active as
a level II jumps and combined events instructor.
She has served as the Women’s Head Manager
for the US National Team at the 2012 Olympic
Games, at the 2011 World Outdoor Championships, at the 2010 World Indoor Championships,
and as Women’s Head Coach at the 2004 World
Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Jeremy Sudbury
Iowa State University Track & Field / Cross Country Assistant Coach
Jeremy Sudbury, played a key role in coaching the Cyclone men’s
cross country team to a second-place finish at
the Big 12 Conference Championships, its highest finish at the conference meet. On the track,
Coach Sudbury’s 2013 season was highlighted
by middle-distance standout Edward Kemboi,
who clocked a program record in the 800-meter run, and went on to become a first-team AllAmerican with a runner-up finish at the indoor
championships and earned second-team AllAmerica status at the outdoor championships.
