SAFETY DIRECTIVE - Airbus Helicopters EC225LP - Limitation of
operations in the Kingdom of Norway due to fatal accident on the 29th of
April 2016
This Safety Directive contains mandatory action that is required to establish an
acceptable level of safety. It is issued in accordance with the Aviation Act
(Luftfartsloven) §4-1 and regulation (EC) No 216/2008 art. 14.1.
Recipients must ensure that this Directive is copied to all members of their staff who need to
take appropriate action or who may have an interest in the information, including any “in-house”
or contracted maintenance organization and relevant outside contractors.
1. INTRODUCTION
This Safety Directive is applicable to operators conducting public transport helicopter
operations or commercial air transport operations in the jurisdiction of the Kingdom of
Norway.
2. COMPLIANCE/ACTION TO BE TAKEN
2.1
The Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority, in exercise of its powers under the
Aviation Act (Luftfartsloven) § 4-1, directs operators of any Airbus EC225LP
helicopter which is:
a) registered in the Registry of the Kingdom of Norway or
b) flying in the Kingdom of Norway or in the vicinity of an offshore installation
to comply with the requirements set forth in paragraph 2.2
2.2
Operators must not conduct any public transport flight or a commercial air
transport operation with Airbus Helicopter EC225LP.

Paragraph 2.2 does not apply to any Search and Rescue flights for the purpose
of saving life.
3. REASON
This Safety Directive is made in the interest of safe operations following a fatal accident
with an Airbus Helicopters EC225LP on the 29th of April 2016 and pending further
investigation.
4. NOTIFICATIONS AND QUERIES
Notifications and queries should be sent to Luftfartstilsynet at postmottak@caa.no, and
referring to Case 16/05616.
5. ENTRY INTO FORCE AND CANCELLATION
This Safety Directive shall enter into force on 29th of April 2016 14:00 hrs UTC and shall
remain in force until revoked by a new Safety Directive.
