North America is the Largest Growing
Market for Epoxidized Soybean Oil in
2014
Epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO) is a collection of organic compounds obtained from
the epoxidation of soybean oil. They are used as a plasticizer and stabilizer in
polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics. ESBO is an yellowish viscous liquid. It is
manufactured through the process of epoxidation with raw materials such as
soybean oil, hydrogen peroxide and formic acid/acetic acid. The soybean oil is
epoxidized with hydrogen peroxide which acts as the oxygen carrier and formic
acid/acetic acid as the catalyst during the ESBO manufacturing process.
