BIGFOOT ENTERTAINMENT ACQUIRES MIAMI AND PALM BEACH FILM SCHOOLS (Miami and West Palm Beach, FL) – Bigfoot Entertainment, Inc. has agreed in principle to acquire the Miami Film School and Palm Beach Film School as part of the International Academy of Film and Television (IAFT) umbrella. Bigfoot also has appointed Jim York, founder and director of the schools, as the chief operating officer of the IAFT. This partnership will add two new locations to the IAFT’s growing roster of film schools, which includes campuses in Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and Cebu, Philippines. Plans are already in motion for a sixth location, in Las Vegas. “With his success in Florida at the Miami and Palm Beach Film Schools, Jim is the perfect person to oversee the always-growing initiatives of the IAFT” said Kacy Andrews, CEO, Bigfoot Entertainment and International Film School Holdings, Ltd. “We feel he will not only channel our efforts to put a network of IAFT schools on the map, but also guide their operations effectively due to his successful track record with other film schools.” The International Academy of Film and Television offers the latest resources in film production technology, including state-of-the-art soundstages and post production facilities. Through Bigfoot Entertainment, the IAFT offers students an opportunity to be a part of feature film productions, such as the recently released “Deep Gold,” an action-adventure film shot on location in Cebu, Philippines, which employed the help of many IAFT graduates. "It has been an honor to work with the creative individuals at the Miami and Palm Beach Film Schools including teachers, staff and students." said Jim York, COO, International Academy of Film and Television. "I now look forward to working with Kacy and IAFT to help aspiring filmmakers from around the world learn to write, shoot, direct and edit their own films. IAFT provides real-world filmmaking opportunities to students by allowing them to gain hands-on experience by working on actual films. With our new partnership, we will continue the commitment to train quality filmmakers, while opening new locations across the U.S. and abroad." Stewart shot a cameo for an upcoming episode of THE GLADES at Homestead-Miami Speedway that’s slated to air June 26, and in doing so, befriended lead actor Matt Passmore, who stars as Jim Longworth, an attractive and brilliant Chicago homicide detective with a reputation for being difficult. In the series, Australian actor Matt Passmore plays Jim Longworth, a Chicago homicide detective who is falsely accused of sleeping with his former captain’s wife and relocates to the fictional town of Palm Glade, Florida. Passmore excels at playing the detective, who is as quick-witted at solving murders as he is at making snappy commentary, whether it’s while he’s questioning suspects or dealing with his co-workers, which include his friend/golf partner and forensic medical examiner Carlos Sanchez (Carlos Gómez); lab tech Daniel Green (Jordan Wall); and his boss, Regional Director for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Colleen McManus (Michelle Hurd). Then there’s Callie Cargill (Kiele Sanchez), a nurse and mother attending medical school who’s just as sharp as Longworth is – so, of course, she’s his love interest. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, and for language – The film revolves around John (Alex Pettyfer), a seemingly ordinary teen who lives with his guardian Henri (Timothy Olyphant). However, John is actually an alien seeking refuge on Earth, and Henri is a warrior sent to protect him. Gifted with special abilities, John soon realizes that Number Three is dead, so he and Henri change their names and move from Florida to a small Ohio town. Being a new kid and fitting in is tough enough, and being an alien, especially one being hunted by other aliens, just complicates things even more. It's a really well-done film and I hope they get around to making the sequel. Extras on the Blu-ray include bloopers, deleted scenes and a featurette. F L OR IDA G O V E R NOR V E T OE S P B S F UNDING New York Times (blog) © May 29, 2011 Just as a deal came together late last week to keep PBS programming on the air in Orlando, Florida’s public broadcasters suffered a financial blow when Gov. Rick Scott vetoed the state’s nearly $4.8 million appropriation for public broadcasting. That figure had already been reduced by 30 percent from the amount broadcasters received last year. With the cuts, each of 13 public radio stations will lose $87,287 in state funds compared with last year, and each of the 13 public television stations will lose a subsidy of $434,837. Stations receive the same subsidy, regardless of size. “For me, it is critical; for a small station it might be catastrophic,” said Rick Schneider, president and chief executive of Miami’s WPBT-TV. He said there was “no doubt that people are going to have to look at layoffs” and that he would not be surprised if some stations were shut down. The broadcasters will work to get the funds reinstated, he said. Orlando’s WMFE-TV had already decided to leave public broadcasting, citing financial strain in its decision to sell itself to a religious broadcaster, which would have left the city without PBS programming on July 1. "With the state's unemployment rate hovering around 12 percent, we need this incentive to help keep hundreds of thousands of Californians employed. Extending this incentive program will prevent production companies from moving their projects, jobs and spending out of California." If the Senate approves the bill, the program will get another 500 million dollars in credits, which is aimed at stopping movies and TV shows such as ABC's "Ugly Betty" flying to other states. The bill, which was launched in early 2009, has yielded 2.2 billion dollars in direct production spending in California so far. They are among 70 state parks, historic sites and recreation areas — or 25% of the 278 parks statewide — that Gov. Jerry Brown has proposed closing in response to the state’s budget crisis. The prospect of losing so many state parks is cause for concern among location managers and film promoters, who fear that such drastic cuts could give producers one more reason to take their business out of California. The timing is bad for the state, which has been working to keep more productions from leaving. California may not have the most generous film tax credit, but what it does have, apart from experienced crews and sunny weather, is an abundance of parks with diverse landscapes that have long served as ready-made locations for producers of films, TV shows and commercials, film industry officials say. So how is it that Tennessee can allow these productions to go elsewhere -- especially considering that film and television productions are tremendous job creators and economic boosts for local businesses? The fact of the matter is that our state tax incentives just don't measure up to places like Georgia and Louisiana, where incentives are even extended to nonresident cast and crew members. They're not taxed for coming in to work temporarily on a multimillion-dollar project, and yet they manage to leave lots of money behind for local economies. That's a big issue for many directors, producers, and even potential studios that are scouting for locations. Writer-director Jeff Celentano was in town for the Memphis International Film Festival to release his movie "Breaking Point" with Tom Berenger and Busta Rhymes. He's all in favor of bringing films to Memphis, but he just can't turn his back on the fact that other states would put a much larger check in his hand to help him with his productions. He said if we could compete, he would definitely look into channeling his pipeline of work to capitalize off the Memphis heritage, culture and people. A growing number of outfits staffed with highly skilled crews have made the two countries home.
